Anthony Castonzo News
Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday. The 10-year veteran started all 144 career regular season games and eight playoff games that he appeared in with the Colts after being drafted with the 22nd overall pick of the 2011 draft out of Boston College. The 32-year-old played in just 12 games in 2020 and required season-ending ankle surgery after Week 15. Castonzo also dealt with a knee injury that slowed him down this season and ultimately played into his decision to hang up his cleats. While never being selected to a Pro Bowl or first-team All-Pro squad, Castonzo was one of the better left tackles during his run with the Colts. Indy still has a very strong offensive line, but losing Castonzo is a blow moving forward.
Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (ankle) will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury that will require surgery, according to head coach Frank Reich. Castonzo missed the Week 16 loss to the Steelers after suffering the injury in practice late last week. Right tackle Braden Smith also missed the game after going on the COVID-19 list, which forced Chaz Green and Will Holden into starting roles. Green allowed two sacks and four total pressures on 41 pass drops at right tackle against Pittsburgh. Holden was injured, forcing veteran J'Marcus Webb into action. Green will start at left tackle in Week 17 against the Jaguars, with Smith expected to resume his role on the right side. Indy is also expected to sign veteran tackle Jared Veldheer. The Colts offensive line is at less than full strength, but quarterback Philip Rivers is still a low-end QB1 against the one-win Jaguars. But it'll be something to watch if the Colts advance to the postseason.
Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee, ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Steelers, which is sure to change the way that the offense operates. It's likely that Quenton Nelson moves over again to protect quarterbackPhilip Rivers' blindside, although how reticent that will make head coach Frank Reich in dialing up pass plays that need considerable protection remains to be seen. Castonzo played 100 percent of the team's offensive snaps last week and has been integral to the team's offensive output thus far in 2020. His loss comes against a tenacious Steelers Defense that leads the league in sacks (47). Castonzo's next chance to return to the field comes in Week 17 against the Jaguars. His absence is a clear downgrade to Rivers' fantasy value this weekend.
