Carl Granderson News
New Orleans Saints edge rusher Carl Granderson made six tackles and recovered a fumble in the Saints' 24-31 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. His tackle figure, including five solos, was healthy for a defensive lineman, and his fumble recovery will put him comfortably into double-digits in many IDP scoring formats. But those who were looking for the fifth-year breakout to make a sack were disappointed. Granderson has made 4.5 sacks this season, including one each in Weeks 5 and 6, but the Jaguars did not give up a single sack to the Saints. Still, Granderson is well on his way to setting a new career-high for sacks. Next week looks to be a more favorable matchup for him against the Indianapolis Colts.
Saints defensive end Carl Granderson starts off his 2023 campaign with an extremely favorable matchup against the worst offensive line in the league, the Tennessee Titans. Granderson, who is entering his fifth year, made a career-high 5.5 sacks last season, 53 combined tackles, nine tackles for losses, and nine hits on opposing quarterbacks while only missing a single tackle. He was only on the field for 479 snaps, 45% of New Orleans' defensive volume, but that should change this season. After Marcus Davenport and David Onyemata left this past offseason, the Saints lack depth and are expected to keep Granderson on the field for a majority of snaps. This is a great week to see what Granderson can do with increased volume. The Titans offensive line ranks dead last in the league in the rankings of almost every major football analysis website, including PFF, Pro Football Network, Action Network, The 33rd Team, and Sharp Football Analytics.
The New Orleans Saints re-signed impending exclusive-rights free-agent defensive end Carl Granderson to a two-year deal on Thursday. Granderson was scheduled to make $965,000 in 2022, but he'll get an additional $4.3 million over the next two years, including a $240,000 signing bonus. The 25-year-old played a part-time role for the Saints in 2021, starting three of the 15 games he played in, and he finished with 25 combined tackles, 11 solo tackles, five tackles for loss, eight QB hits and three sacks. In his three seasons with New Orleans, Granderson has 50 tackles, 30 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, two forced fumbles and nine sacks in 38 games.
