Marvin Lewis News
The Cincinnati Bengals have parted ways with head coach Marvin Lewis on Monday. Lewis had one season remaining on an extension that he signed last year, but the decision to part ways was mutual. The 60-year-old was the second longest tenured coach in the NFL behind Bill Belichick. Lewis had coached the Bengals for 16 seasons and went 131-122-3. He was also 0-7 in the playoffs and 8-26 against the division-rival Steelers. Lewis endorsed special assistant Hue Jackson to be the next head coach after he was fired by the Browns this year. A terrible defense and an offense that had little depth after key offensive injuries did the Bengals in. The main goal in 2019 for the head coach will be to improve the defense and build depth at the offensive skill positions, mainly tight end.
The status of Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis heading into the 2019 season is in doubt. The Bengals aren't committed to Lewis beyond this season, as he's believed to have signed a one-year deal with an option for the 2019 season last year. Lewis could move to the front office and have Hue Jackson take over the head coaching duties. Last year was thought to be Lewis' last as the head coach, but they surprisingly brought him back. The Bengals got off to a hot start this year but have faded down the stretch and are now without quarterback Andy Dalton (thumb) for the rest of the season.
