Rodney Hudson News
The Arizona Cardinals are expected to release center Rodney Hudson, according to sources. Hudson had previously reduced his salary to $2 million, which often indicates that retirement is coming. He's expected to decide his future soon. The 33-year-old center played in his 12th NFL season in 2022, and it was his second year in the desert. He ended up playing only four games last year due to knee and rib injuries. Hudson has made the Pro Bowl three times in his career, most recently in 2019 with the Las Vegas Raiders. If he decides to continue his playing career, he'll be looking at a reduced role with another organization.
Arizona Cardinals veteran center Rodney Hudson, who was absent from mandatory minicamp last month with his status for 2022 uncertain, has informed the team that he is returning and will play this year, according to sources. Hudson will report to training camp with the rest of the veteran players next Tuesday. The 33-year-old wasn't all that effective last season, but his return has to be considered positive news for quarterback Kyler Murray and the rest of Arizona's offense as they look to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Rams early in the playoffs. Hudson also missed five games last year due to injury, so the Cardinals will be hoping he can stay healthy for what could be his last NFL season.
The Arizona Cardinals activated starting center Rodney Hudson from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Hudson has missed the last two games while on the COVID list, and he also missed three games earlier this year with a ribs injury. "Rodney has been huge for us," head coach Kliff Kingsbury said. "When you look at the games he's played for us, we've played really well offensively. He's the security blanket for all of us really, the coaching staff, the O-line, the skills guys." Max Garcia played center and Josh Jones was used at right guard with Hudson out, but Jones struggled and had three false-start penalties in the Week 16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. With Hudson back, Garcia is expected to slide back to right guard. In 10 games in 2021, Hudson hasn't had a penalty and has allowed just one sack and three QB pressures.
