Taylor Lewan News
Veteran offensive tackle Taylor Lewan has announced his retirement from professional football. Lewan spent his entire nine-year career with the Tennessee Titans, earning three Pro Bowl selections and consistently anchoring the offensive line. The 32-year-old suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2022 campaign and was released this past offseason. While Lewan presumably explored the free agent market, he has ultimately decided to step away from football after a very successful career.
Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan (knee) announced on his official Twitter account on Wednesday that he has been released. The three-time Pro Bowler's time in Tennessee comes to an end after spending nine years with the organization. He was drafted 11th overall by the Titans in 2014 out of the University of Michigan. The 32-year-old tore his right ACL in Week 2 of last season and will need to prove he's healthy again before a team takes a chance on him in free agency. Injuries have become an issue for Lewan of late, as he hasn't played more than five games in 2022, 13 in 2021 and just two last year.
Tennessee Titans three-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Taylor Lewan (knee) said he expects to be released before he has to decide whether or not he wants to continue his career. Lewan only played in two games in 2022 before being placed on season-ending Injured Reserve due to a knee injury. Injuries have been an issue for the 31-year-old in recent years, as he's missed a total of 30 games in the last three years, which ultimately has him considering retirement this offseason. By cutting him, the Titans would free up $14.8 million in salary cap space for 2023. If this is the end for Lewan, he will have played all nine of his NFL seasons for the Titans after they selected him 11th overall in the 2014 draft out of Michigan. Lewan made the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons from 2016-18.
