New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad kept his prolific form going with an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Carolina. He set up Alexis Lafreniere for a game-tying goal early in the third period. Zibanejad joined Brian Leetch as the second player in Rangers history to record multiple eight-game point streaks in the playoffs. Playing in his eighth postseason game of the year, the Swedish forward also matched Mark Messier's Rangers record for the fewest games in a postseason to reach 10 assists. Zibanejad has added three goals to his helpers, posting seven of his 13 points on the power play.
New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad led the charge as the team opened its second-round series against Carolina with a 4-3 victory at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Zibanejad needed less than three minutes of action at the start of the game to open the scoring and totaled two goals and an assist in the contest. He had all of his points in the first period, collecting two with the man advantage. This was Zibanejad's second career three-point playoff game. After picking up only four points (one goal, three assists) in seven postseason appearances a year ago, Zibanejad has been a changed man in the 2024 playoffs with a team-high 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in five games.
New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad collected two points on Sunday while helping his team to a four-game sweep of the Washington Capitals in their first-round playoff series. The Swede notched two assists on the night, the first of which came on a power play with just 16 seconds to go in the first period. He notched another power-play helper on Artemi Panarin's third-period, game-winning goal just 3:21 in the third period. It was the third straight two-point game for the veteran who finished the series with a goal and six assists through four games. The Rangers will now take on the winner of the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders series with the 'Canes sporting a 3-1 series lead with Game 5 set for Tuesday in Carolina.
New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad continued his strong start to the postseason on Friday, posting two more assists in Game 3 against the Washington Capitals, helping the team take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Zibanejad had a bit of a down year, by his standards, with 72 points (26 goals, 46 assists) in 81 games, which was his lowest points-per-game since 2017-18. He looks fine now though, with five points in just three playoff games. He will be a key part of the Rangers playoff run and will need to continue producing at a high rate, especially once the competition stiffens.
