Noah Hanifin News
Defenseman Noah Hanifin has joined the Vegas Golden Knights, who acquired the 27-year-old from the Calgary Flames. In exchange, the Flames received a conditional 2025 first-round pick, a conditional 2025 third-round pick, and defenseman Daniil Miromanov while retaining 50 percent of Hanifin's salary. The deal also involved the Philadelphia Flyers, who received a 2024 fifth-round pick from Vegas for retaining 50 percent of Hanifin's remaining salary. Hanifin was the fifth pick in the 2015 NHL draft by Carolina and is playing in his ninth NHL season. He joined Calgary in 2018 via a trade. 2023-24 has been one of his best seasons in the league, as Hanifin has scored a career-high 11 goals and is flirting with a 50-point campaign, with 35 points earned through 61 outings. He's expected to replace Alec Martinez (undisclosed) in the top four in Vegas after the veteran was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday.
Calgary Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin registered his third multi-point game of the season Thursday with two assists in a 5-3 road victory over the Devils. Hanifin's helpers came in the third period as Calgary ruined Jack Hughes' return to the Devils lineup. The 27-year-old reached 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) for the campaign -- 11 have come since the beginning of last month. Hanifin sees big minutes on Calgary's blue line and doesn't shy away from any dirty work either, with 75 blocks to his name through 51 games.
Calgary Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin remained in a giving mood on Monday, setting up two goals in a 3-2 shootout loss in Washington. Adam Ruzicka, who ended a 32-game goal drought, and Dillon Dube benefited from Hanifin's vision. The 26-year-old became the sixth blue-liner in Flames history to open a season with an assist streak of at least three games. Mark Giordano was the last one to do it in 2014-15. Through the first three games of the campaign, Hanifin has notched four assists in total, sitting tied for second in the league. Two of the helpers have come in power-play situations.
Calgary Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin is open to signing an extension with the team. Hanifin's future has been up in the air after it was reported in the offseason that he isn't expected to extend his contract. However, it's now been clarified that the 26-year-old simply didn't want to re-sign over the summer and wants to see how the 2023-24 campaign pans out before committing himself to a new deal. Hanifin is set to become an unrestricted free agent if an agreement can't be found. The American blue-liner has spent the last five seasons in Calgary, producing 156 points (31 goals, 125 assists) in 359 games with 702 shots on goal and 425 blocks. His role has grown each year and Rasmus Andersson was the only skater on the team to average more ice time than Hanifin in 2022-23.
