Ryan Suter News
Dallas Stars defenseman Ryan Suter logged an assist on both of the team's goals in Sunday's Game 2 against Vegas but also made a costly mistake in a 3-2 overtime loss. With 2:22 left in regulation and the Stars 2-1 up, Suter gave away the puck with a bad pass that directly led to Jonathan Marchessault's game-tying goal. It was a horrible finish to a historic outing as Suter became the oldest defenseman in franchise history with a multi-point game in the playoffs. He also had two hits in the contest with one shot on goal and one block while logging 24:56 action. Suter will want to make up for his mistake in Game 3, but another big offensive contribution isn't likely from him, as the veteran blue-liner has posted only five points in this year's 15 postseason games.
Despite coming off of a promising end to the 2020-21 season, the Minnesota Wild are parting ways with two key veterans: forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter. Both players were placed on waivers on Tuesday and will have the final four seasons of their respective contracts bought out. Both players signed identical 13-year, $98 million contracts in 2012. Along with providing significant cap relief in 2021-22, the moves will allow the club to protect two more players during the expansion draft, which will fill the roster of the Seattle Kraken. The new club enters the league for the 2021-22 season. Colorado will receive more than $10 million in savings next year but will have significant penalties levied against them during years two to four of the eight-year buyout.
Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter scored a game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation Saturday night vs. the Kings, adding an assist in an eventual 4-3 overtime victory. Marcus Johansson produced the game-winner with his first strike in Wild colors. Matt Dumba and Joel Eriksson Ek also scored for Minnesota, who entered the third period trailing by two goals. Suter logged a team-high 24:07 in the contest and he finished the game with six shots on goal. The veteran defenseman is off to a nice start to the season with three points through two games. He's been a solid 40-50-point guy for years and should be able to produce similar numbers in 2020-21.
