Bryan Woo News
Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (forearm) is listed as the team's probable starter for this Wednesday's game against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Woo was removed from the injured list last week in order to make his season debut on Friday in a strong matchup against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The 24-year-old looked good, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless inning before being removed with right-forearm tightness. It was concerning since Woo missed the first six weeks of the regular season with right-elbow inflammation, but it turns out his latest injury isn't serious enough to keep him from making his second start of 2024. Woo looked good on Friday but did only throw 62 pitches in the outing, so fantasy managers looking for streamers should consider him pretty risky on Wednesday in a shy-away matchup against KC.
Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (forearm) said he experienced some tightness in his right forearm in his season debut on Friday night against the Oakland Athletics due to the long layover between the fourth and fifth innings, but manager Scott Servais said he thinks Woo will be fine to make his next scheduled start. The 24-year-old was making his first start of 2024 after being activated from the 15-day injured list. Before departing as a precaution in the eventual 8-1 win over the A's, the second-year starter looked good, tossing 4 1/3 shutout innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Woo gave up just one hit. He lines up to make his next start on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the upstart Kansas City Royals. Woo won't have a ton of fantasy upside as a streamer for that one, but he deserves to be considered as a back-end fantasy starter in deeper leagues.
Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (elbow) will come off the injured list to make his 2024 debut on Friday against the Oakland Athletics at home. While the A's offense has certainly heated up recently, it's still a plus matchup for Woo's first big-league start of the year. The 24-year-old has been on the injured list since the beginning of the year due to right-elbow inflammation. In his three minor-league rehab starts with Triple-A Tacoma, Woo threw 11 1/3 shutout innings with no walks and 17 strikeouts, so he appears to be in great form and will be in play as a deep-league streaming option right away in his first start back. With Woo returning to Seattle's rotation, Emerson Hancock is expected to head back to the minors.

Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo was drafted in 2021 and logged just 282 IP in the minors before being thrust into action last season. The former sixth-round pick pitched admirably despite the lack of seasoning, ending the season 4-5 with a 4.21 ERA (4.13 SIERA), 1.21 WHIP, and 16.7% K-BB% over 18 starts (87 2/3 IP). He posted very strong K% numbers in the minors, which carried over to the majors (25.1%), but the righty had just average BB% numbers (8.4%) and a poor HR/FB% (13.4%). Woo was particularly vulnerable against left-handed batters last season, allowing them to slash .283/.389/.539. He's got an 85th-percentile FB Run Value per Baseball Savant, but the secondary pitches need work. Pitching+ and Stuff+ both checked in at better than 70th percentile nevertheless. With an NFBC ADP of 190, he's being drafted around his RotoBaller rank of 195. ATC projections call for a 7-8 record with a 3.94 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 17.9% K-BB% in 25 starts (133 IP). Woo won't crush your ERA or WHIP and will provide a steady source of Ks at the end of drafts. If he develops faster than expected, at where he's being drafted, he could provide additional value.
