Daulton Varsho News
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday with the team facing a left-handed pitcher. With Varsho getting the day off, Cavan Biggio will make the start in right field for the Jays and will hit ninth in the batting order against Royals left-hander Cole Ragans. Varsho has gone 5-for-17 (.294) with a solo home run against southpaws so far in 2024, but he also has just one hit in his last 14 at-bats over his last four games to drop his season slash line to .233/.324/.500. The 27-year-old left-handed slugger has added six home runs, 14 RBI and three stolen bases. Varsho should be back in Toronto's starting lineup on Wednesday. Biggio has very little fantasy upside in the nine-hole. He's hitting .229 (16-for-70) on the year with a homer and six RBI.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho belted two home runs in Wednesday's game versus the division-rival New York Yankees, but it wasn't enough as his team fell 6-4. Varsho's first homer was a two-run shot that went 373 feet to right center field to score Davis Schneider in the second inning, and his second blast traveled 392 feet to give the Jays a temporary 3-1 lead during the seventh frame. The 27-year-old converted catcher had a strong spring training, and he's offering plenty of power with four round-trippers and eight RBI in 55 at-bats to begin the 2024 season. Even so, he's only batting .218 across 19 outings and will likely need to pick it up in the speed department (one stolen base) to overcome hitting in the lower part of Toronto's order. Varsho has a three-game series against the San Diego Padres starting on Friday, and in 21 games against San Diego since 2022, Varsho is batting just .147 with three bombs.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho is not in the team's starting lineup on Monday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. With Varsho on the bench in the series opener, Davis Schneider is getting the start in left field and is batting in the five-hole for the Blue Jays against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Schneider has never faced Castillo in his career in what will be a difficult matchup for the infielder/outfielder. The 27-year-old Varsho's fantasy stock has been falling since his disappointing first year in Toronto in 2023, and losing catcher eligibility hasn't helped his cause at all. Through the first 10 contests of 2024, he's gone 4-for-30 (.133) with no home runs or RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts in 34 plate appearances.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho endured a down season in the 2023 campaign, his first with the Jays following a highly-publicized deal from the Arizona Diamondbacks. After slugging 27 homers alongside 16 steals in 2022, Varsho fell to 20 homers while matching his stolen base total from his previous season. At the same time, he hit just .220 while his runs and RBI totals both took sizeable dips. While a middling walk rate and subpar batting average limit his overall value in the real world, his power and speed combination continue to buoy his fantasy value. A strong spring has been encouraging and ATC projects Varsho to hit 22 home runs and steal 15 more bags this season. However, he has plenty of run to improve on those totals coming into his prime at age 27. Boasting an ADP of 210.14, Varsho offers a rock-solid floor with plenty of upside to outperform his projections in 2024.
