Vladimir Guerrero Jr. News
Saturday was only one game, but long-suffering Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. managers received welcomed news in the form of a 4-for-5, three-RBI performance in the team's 10-8 win over the Minnesota Twins. Guerrero tied the score at 8-8 with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to give him 19 RBI this season. However, all four of his hits were singles, and while his .272 batting average is acceptable, Guerrero's .391 slugging percentage continues to be a source of discontent. He has just one home run since April 12 and only 10 extra-base hits. Overall, Guerrero is slashing .272/.360/.391 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 14 runs, and a stolen base over 39 games in 2024.
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. accounted for all of the team's offense in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the visiting Seattle Mariners, crushing his third home run of the season. Guerrero tied the game at one run apiece with a towering 465-foot shot off Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert during the seventh inning. It doesn't look like Guerrero is going to recapture his 2021 Silver Slugger form, but he remains one of the most dependable assets one can find in fantasy baseball. While the 25-year-old three-time All-Star had a great spring, he's off to a sluggish start while hitting .200 (10-for-50) with a .742 OPS, three long balls, and five RBI across his first 13 regular-season outings. Guerrero looks to tee off on a Colorado Rockies pitching staff that ranks dead last in ERA (6.57), WHIP (1.78), and batting average against (.297) during a three-game weekend set starting on Friday.
Outfielder George Springer will retain his leadoff spot in the Toronto Blue Jays' batting order to open the 2024 regular season, but the team is leaning toward having first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit second, followed by shortstop Bo Bichette. "I really like the way (Guerrero) is swinging the bat," manager John Schneider said. "I think having him in between George and Bo is a good thing." Guerrero often hit third in 2023, a spot that will now be occupied by mostly Justin Turner. The 25-year-old slugger hit in the three-hole for 110 games in 2023, while batting second only twice. It's a move that probably won't have a drastic affect on Vlad Jr.'s overall numbers, although it could allow him to get more at-bats in the long run.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. faced a challenging season, marked by his lowest wRC+ since 2020 and a notable dip in home runs to 26 from the previous two years. Guerrero's slash line of .264/.345/.444 approached career lows, suggesting a year below his usual standards. Despite the on-field struggles, his peripheral stats indicate potential bad luck throughout the season. Guerrero ranked in the top six percent for expected weighted on-base average and the top four percent for expected batting average, emphasizing the disparity between his outcomes and the quality of his contact. Impressively, he also landed in the top 10 percentile for average exit velocity and hard-hit percentage, showcasing consistent elite contact. However, his aggressive, early-count swing approach, while reducing strikeouts, sometimes resulted in suboptimal pitch selection. Currently boasting an ADP of around 24, our rankings suggest this may be too high following his challenging season. Guerrero needs to rediscover his prior form to justify this draft position, introducing an element of risk at the current ADP.
