Elly De La Cruz News
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz will retreat to the bench on Wednesday for the series finale on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This will be the first time that De La Cruz will take a day off. He's slowed down offensive since the calendar flipped to May, going 10-for-46 (.217) with a homer, two RBI, eight stolen bases and 18 strikeouts in 12 games played. Despite the recent slump so far in May, De La Cruz is a must-start in all fantasy formats when he's active, as he currently leads all of baseball with 26 stolen bases in just 42 games played, and he also has nine home runs and 21 RBI. Santiago Espinal is starting at the 6 and is hitting eighth in place of De La Cruz on Wednesday against Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz hit a home run in Monday's victory against the San Diego Padres. The 22-year-old shortstop went 1-for-4 with his only hit being a solo home run. De La Cruz has had some rough stretches this season but has also been able to make an impact at times for the Reds. He is hitting .280 (28-for-100) with five doubles, one triple, eight homers, 19 RBI, 26 runs, 17 walks, 36 strikeouts, and 18 stolen bases through 29 games. With matchups in his favor against San Diego and Baltimore, De La Cruz should remain a starter in your lineups.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz ran circles around the Los Angeles Angels on Friday in the Reds' 7-1 victory. De La Cruz went 2-4 with a three-run homer and a single. He also recorded three RBI, two runs and three stolen bases. It was his first game with multiple stolen bases this season and the second time in his career he has recorded three stolen bases in a game. The 22-year-old also raised his OPS to 1.002 on the season, a significant bump over his .710 mark last season. De La Cruz now has hit a HR in back-to-back games and will look to continue his hot streak on Saturday against Angels lefty Patrick Sandoval.

21-year-old switch hitter Elly De La Cruz took the baseball world by storm after making his debut for Cincinnati on June 6. In 21 games that month, he batted .307 with three homers, 12 RBI, nine stolen bases, and an .881 OPS. The Dominican rookie also hit for the cycle on June 23 and wowed with incredible speed and arm strength. Unfortunately for the Reds, De La Cruz could not maintain this offensive production and dropped off significantly following the All-Star break, slashing just .191/.272/.355 in 68 second-half games. It's still far too early to label De La Cruz as a bust. After all, he'll be just 22 years old at the start of the 2024 season and was a top prospect in the Reds organization before his debut. ATC projects De La Cruz to bat .249, slug .438, hit 21 homers, and knock in 69 runs while stealing 37 bases. His ADP predicts him to land at 24.0, and considering the value he can bring to any fantasy team, this is a fair assessment.
