Jorge Soler News
San Francisco Giants designated hitter Jorge Soler (shoulder) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Soler is slated to play in two games in the minors and will likely be back with the Giants on Friday for the series opener against the division-rival Colorado Rockies if everything goes well there. Before hitting the injured list with a strained right shoulder, the 32-year-old slugger slashed a disappointing .202/.294/.361 with five homers, four doubles, and eight RBI through 119 at-bats (34 games) as San Fran's everyday DH. Despite those shortcomings, Soler would have a great opportunity to jump-start his season while facing off with a Rockies team that entered Wednesday's action ranked last in team ERA (5.16) and WHIP (1.53) in 2024.
San Francisco Giants outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler (head, shoulder), who was hitting on the field on Tuesday for the first time since going on the injured list, fouled a ball off the top pipe of the batting cage that ricocheted and hit him in the head. Soler walked off the field with a trainer and could undergo testing for a concussion if his injury is serious enough. At the very least, this incident could cause the Giants to pause the 32-year-old veteran slugger's rehab from a shoulder injury. The Cuban right-handed hitter will return to a regular role in the Giants' lineup between outfield and the DH spot when he's healthy enough to return from the injured list. His elite power alone makes him worth stashing in most fantasy leagues. Before getting hurt, Soler was hitting .202 (24-for-119) with five homers and eight RBI in his first 34 games with the Gigantes.
San Francisco Giants designated hitter Jorge Soler (shoulder) began a hitting progression on Friday. Soler said that he was feeling "extremely well" and had no pain in his strained right shoulder on Wednesday. The fact that Soler didn't face a shutdown from baseball activities and is already hitting means he has a great chance of being activated from the 10-day injured list on May 15, when he's first eligible for reinstatement. Although the 32-year-old slugger was slashing a disappointing .202/.294/.361 with five home runs, four doubles, and eight RBI across 136 plate appearances (34 games) as San Fran's everyday DH before going down, he's worth stashing for fantasy managers in need of power stats. With Soler sidelined, veteran Wilmer Flores should continue operating the Giants' primary DH.

Wherever he ends up, free agent DH/OF Jorge Soler is going to bring the power, especially against left-handed pitching. In 2023, the former All-Star blasted 36 HR, with a 92nd percentile Barrel% and HR/FB% of 21.2%. Against LHP, Soler had the best ISO in the entire league at .411 (.219 vs RHP) and fifth-best wRC+ of 181 (110 vs RHP). The less-than-league-average Contact% of 75.0% can cause bouts of streakiness, and 22 of his 36 HR came in just two months (May and August), although he consistently gets on base as a result of a better-than-league-average BB% of 11.4%. All in all, the former World Series MVP owned a .250-36-75-77-1 line with a .361 WOBA and 126 wRC+. Heading into his age-32 season, ATC projections call for a .242-29-72-71-1 line with a .346 WOBA and 119 wRC+. NFBC ADP data shows he's going around pick 153, slightly ahead of his RotoBaller rank of 156. These projections may fluctuate once he signs somewhere, and while plate discipline metrics like Contact% and SwStr% have been improving for Soler since 2018, Marcell Ozuna offers similar production in perhaps the best environment around and RotoBaller ranks him six spots ahead of Soler despite having nearly identical ADPs.
