Jake Haener News
New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler has an uphill climb to earn backup duties to veteran Derek Carr in his rookie season, which is why Jake Haener currently looks to be the favorite to be second on the QB depth chart out of training camp this summer. At the very least, though, Rattler is going to be in competition for the No. 2 spot with Haener. There are other veterans on the roster as well in Kellen Mond and Nathan Peterman, and Taysom Hill can't be ruled out for getting some work under center in camp, either. Rattler's growth could be tied to how quickly he can learn the offensive lingo and installs. Haener had a leg up last year since he ran a version of the Saints' offense at the Senior Bowl the previous season. Rattler might have to sit on the bench for a few years, so he's only worth drafting in dynasty/keeper leagues this fall.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener was suspended six games for violating the NFL's PED policy on Wednesday. Haener, a fourth-round pick out of Fresno State in 2023, will kick off his NFL career away from the team as he serves out his suspension. He will first be eligible to return to the team's active roster on October 16 and will lose $250,000 of his $750,000 salary on the year. Haener mostly practiced as the team's third-string QB behind Derek Carr and Jameis Winston throughout training camp and the preseason.
New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Jake Haener had a tough outing in the final preseason game of the season. Haener completed 17 of 38 pass attempts for 172 yards, throwing two interceptions and taking two sacks in the loss. He added two carries for 32 yards on the ground. The fourth-round rookie from Fresno State is entrenched as the third string quarterback for New Orleans, where he will develop behind Derek Carr and Jameis Winston. He will not see game action this season unless both Carr and Winston face injuries, so leave him completely off of the fantasy radar for now.
