Joshua Dobbs News
The San Francisco 49ers reached an agreement on an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs on Monday, according to his agent, Mike McCartney. Dobbs will give the Niners more depth behind starter Brock Purdy after Sam Darnold signed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. The 29-year-old Dobbs was the early season feel-good story in the NFL last year with the Arizona Cardinals and Vikings, but he was ultimately benched in Minnesota after they acquired him in a trade. In 13 games played (12 starts), the Steelers' former fourth-round selection in 2017 out of Tennessee completed 62.8% of his pass attempts for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Dobbs also added six rushing scores. He should be considered the favorite for backups duties over Brandon Allen.
The Minnesota Vikings are making a change at quarterback, with Nick Mullens replacing Joshua Dobbs under center for the Week 15 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, according to sources. Mullens replaced the struggling Dobbs in the fourth quarter of Week 14's 3-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and has 17 career NFL starts under his belt. He also knows the Vikings system and is fully healthy after being on Injured Reserve in October. The 28-year-old went 9-for-13 for 83 yards and led the Vikings on their only scoring drive of the game on Sunday. Mullens has experience, but Saturday will be his first start since 2021 and he isn't going to have much fantasy upside at all against Cincinnati on the road. At best, he'll be a low-end streamer in two-QB formats in Week 15.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs struggled in the narrow win over the Raiders in Week 14. The signal-caller threw 63 yards off 10-for-23 passing, adding five carries for 21 yards. In all fairness, both teams had trouble getting things going offensively, as the game was scoreless until late. But it's still worth noting Dobbs was benched late in the contest in favor of Nick Mullens, who went 9-for-13 passing for 83 yards. Nevertheless, Dobbs may not be under center in Week 15 against the Bengals. However, neither Dobbs nor Mullens is worth starting, even more so if Justin Jefferson (chest) and Alexander Mattison (ankle) aren't available.
