Reed Blankenship News
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed safety Reed Blankenship to a one-year contract extension, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. The new deal pays him a fully guaranteed $3.94 million over the next two years and has an additional $1.38 million available in playing time and Pro Bowl incentives. Blankenship was undrafted out of Middle Tennessee State University in 2022, and he has exceeded expectations in Philadelphia. In career 25 games (19 starts), the 25-year-old has racked up 147 tackles (99 solo), four interceptions, and 13 passes defended. After the release of former All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, Blankenship is slated to start alongside C.J. Gardner-Johnson for the Eagles in 2024.
Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship (head) left Sunday night's game in the second quarter to be evaluated for a concussion. He was helped off the field after being down for a while and was taken immediately to the medical tent. While he's out, Sydney Brown has taken his place at safety. The Eagles have only suited up three true safeties for this game, so if anything else happens, they'll be moving some positions around. The Eagles' defense hasn't been able to hold the Dallas Cowboys offense so far as they're down 17-3. Blankenship is currently questionable to return to this one.
Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) did not practice on Thursday. He suffered the injury to his ribs in the third quarter of the Eagles' 14-20 loss to the New York Jets last week. He had made five tackles, including one tackle for a loss, by the time he exited the game. Over the first six weeks of the season, he has ranked as the DB12 in FantasyPros' IDP scoring format and the DB8 in terms of weekly average. If he is unable to play against the pass-heavy Miami Dolphins in Week 7, Terrell Edmunds should be expected to get more snaps.
