Daily Fantasy Golf Tips
It didn’t take too long after the conclusion of the 2018-2019 season and here we are at the beginning of the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season! It all kicks off with A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. The field for this year’s edition of the tournament is a bit weaker than normal as it usually takes place in the summer when more golfers are in the swing of things. Most of the best players in the world are still resting after last season’s conclusion but there is still some decent talent in the field this week who will navigate The Old White TPC at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The 50 grads from the Korn Ferry Tour are all in the field this week, most notably Viktor Hovland who fared very well last season in his 10 PGA Tour starts.
The Old White TPC is a track that measures in at 7,292 yards, is a par 70, and the greens are comprised of bentgrass. It’s a full field at 156 players, and this season will see the majority of tournaments having the top 65 scoring players plus ties make it into the weekend with no secondary cut (MDF) happening after round 3’s on Saturdays – so whichever of your players make the cut on Friday after round 2, then they are guaranteed to play all four rounds through Sunday barring a withdraw. Note that The Greenbrier event was completely washed out in 2016, so you won’t see any results from that year below. Some of the key stats to focus on this week are Strokes Gained Approach, Strokes Gained: 125-50, Strokes Gain: 150-175, and Strokes Gained Putting.
Let’s get to my picks for this week, you can take a look at some of my very favorite players for The Greenbrier – my top 10 favorite golfers to do well in the tournament and 5 value picks (in no particular order), and I include player salaries for both DraftKings and FanDuel as well.
10 Players With Strong Potential To Finish Strong This Week
Jason Kokrak (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,500, FanDuel – $11,500) – Had a career season last season with just one missed cut in 23 starts, 5 top 10’s, and finished the season very strong finishing no worse than 19th in his final four events, three of them being playoff tournaments including the Tour Championship. Was 3rd at The Greenbrier last year, and is my favorite player this week with all things considered.
Viktor Hovland (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,900, FanDuel – $12,100) – Was very solid on the PGA Tour last season with 7 top ’40s in his final 8 events, and finished no worse than 16th in his final 4 tournaments with his best finish coming in his last start – a 4th at the Wyndham Championship. Was 2nd and 11th in two Korn Ferry Tour Finals events, and is poised to take a run at winning the rookie of the year award on the PGA Tour this season.
Scottie Sheffler (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,300, FanDuel – $10,200) – Saw limited action on the PGA Tour last season with just four events played, he made three cuts though and his best finish came at the Valero Texas Open where he finished 20th. Most notably, he had two wins on the Korn Ferry Tour, and in the
Sungjae
Joaquin Niemann (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,700, FanDuel – $11,000) – Is my second favorite player in the tournament this year after Kokrak – he was 5th here last year and was 29th in 2017. Went on a huge run last season with just one missed cut in his final 11 starts, and that came at The Open Championship so we won’t fault him too much for that. Had 10 top 31st place finishes in those last 11 starts as well so he was very consistent.
Bryson DeChambeau (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,100, FanDuel – $12,300) – Is the top-ranked player in the field this week – had a solid season in 2018-2019 with just four missed cuts in 23 events, 7 top 10’s, 2 wins between the PGA and European Tour, and finished with a 12th at the Tour Championship. Has only played this tournament once, walking away with a 14th in 2017.
Russell Henley (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,400, FanDuel – $10,700) – Only made half of his cuts last season in 24 starts, but was perfect in that regard in his final 4 events and had a 2nd at the John Deere Classic during that time period. Is mostly on this list because he has a 10th, 5th, and a 5th over the past three years at The Greenbrier.
Keegan Bradley (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,100, FanDuel – $10,400) – Consistently makes cuts – only missed four in 24 starts last season and made it all the way to the second last tournament of the season where he had a 43rd at the BMW Championship. Has a good track record at this tournament with a 13th last year, 50th in 2017, 29th in 2015, and had a 4th in 2014.
Robert Streb (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,500, FanDuel – $9,900) – Had a 3rd in his second last start in the 2018-2019 campaign but otherwise, he didn’t finish the season very strongly by any means. Much like Henley above, he’s on the list because of his course history here where he was 11th last year and had a pair of runner up finishes in 2017 and 2015. Don’t play him in cash games, but he is a good play in GPP’s where he’s a high-risk high reward option.
Joel Dahmen (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,000, FanDuel – $9,600) – Was 20/28 last season with two top 10’s, and in his last start of the season at the BMW Championship, he had a 24th – his best finish since May where he was runner up at the Wells Fargo Championship. Was 5th here last year.
5 Value Pick Players
Ryan Armour (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,600, FanDuel – $8,900) – Only missed one cut in his final 7 tournaments last season, was 21st here last year and had a 22nd in 2015.
Sebastian Munoz (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,600, FanDuel – $8,700) – Had 3 top 10’s in 25 starts last season, and made the cut in his last six tournaments played. Only played here in 2017 where he finished 3rd.
Sepp Straka (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,600, FanDuel – $8,900) – Made five straight cuts to round out his 18-19 season with a 3rd and a 12th during that stretch.
Shawn Stefani (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,700, FanDuel – $7,800) – I might sound like a broken record, but much the same as Straka above, Stefani made his last five cuts to polish off his 18-19 campaign. Finished between 13th to 37th between 2014 to 2017, excluding 2016 of course when the tournament had to be canceled after the course was flooded.
Roberto Castro (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,900, FanDuel – $7,600) – Only missed a single cut in his last 7 starts from last season, and had a 20th here in 2017.
Build some lineups that you feel great about heading into the tournament, kick off the new season in style, and all the best with your finishes on Sunday!
