15 DFS Golf Picks for the Sanderson Farms Championship

Daily Fantasy Golf Tips

With the first tournament of 2019-2020 in the books after 20-year old Joaquin Niemann broke through for his first PGA Tour win, we now turn our attention to the Sanderson Farms Championship. The fields are normally not too strong for the first few tournaments of each new season, and this season is no different as we have another sub-par field for tournament number two of the season. Niemann is looking to go back to back as he’s back in the field again this week as of now, and another 155 golfers will be up against him at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.

The Country Club of Jackson is a track that measures long in length in at 7,421, is a par 72, and the greens are Bermuda. This week will see a full field at 156 golfers, and once again, the top 65 players plus ties after round 2 on Friday get to play all four rounds, as there’s no such thing as a secondary cut (MDF) anymore. This is the sixth straight year that the Country Club of Jackson has hosted this event. Some of the key stats to look at this week are Strokes Gained: Approach, Fairways Gained, Birdies or Better Gained, Strokes Gained: Par 5s, Strokes Gained: Par 4s (400-450 yards).

Let’s show you what you came here for – my picks this week for my 10 favorite players for The Greenbrier and 5 value picks (in no particular order), plus I include player salaries for both DraftKings and FanDuel as well.

Sanderson Farms Championship

10 Players Who Are Poised To Finish Strong This Week

Scottie Scheffler (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,900, FanDuel – $11,100) – Is coming off a strong 7th place finish last week at The Greenbrier, and led the field in several stat categories including greens in regulation, proximity to the hole, and strokes gained tee to green. Is looking to build off a strong Korn Ferry Tour season, and his future is bright on the PGA Tour. Was 45th here last season.

Joaquin Niemann (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,300, FanDuel – $11,800) – Typically players who win the previous week will withdraw to celebrate their win and spend some of their big money, but as of now Niemann is still in the field. After his first PGA Tour win, he will be busy this week with the media and other demands, and so his end result could take a hit. Is making his Sanderson Farms Championship debut if he stays in – keep an eye to make sure he will tee it up on Thursday.

Sungjae Im (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,500, FanDuel – $11,600) – Has 4 top 19’s in his last five starts, and that other start he finished 38th in a playoff event at The Northern Trust. Missed the cut on the number here last season, and should easily make the cut this year with a top 5 finish very possible.

Brian Harman (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,700, FanDuel – $10,700) – Was 3rd last week at The Greenbrier, and was 6th just two starts ago at the Wyndham Championship – plus a 7th and 8th came not too long ago for Harman as well. Debuted here in 2013 where he finished 40th and should have a strong finish this week assuming his putter stays hot.

Lucas Glover (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,200, FanDuel – $10,800) – Has 3 top 10’s in his last seven starts, and has made all of those cuts to boot. Has a strong tournament history with a 14th last season, a 5th in 2017, was 39th in 2016, and 22nd in 2014. The key stat models love him this week, and for good reason.

Corey Conners (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,600, FanDuel – $10,200) – The strong tee to green ball striker was runner up here last season, and has 5 straight top 27’s with a 7th sprinkled in there – 3 of those events were playoff events including The Tour Championship. He broke through last season and might be even better this season.

Vaughn Taylor (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,300, FanDuel – $10,300) – This older gentleman is on a heater right now with 10 straight cuts made, and two top 6’s in his last six events. Was 26th here last season, 10th in 2017, 20th in 2016, and another 20th here makes him 4 for 4 and a great bet to succeed this week.

Sebastián Muñoz (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,900, FanDuel – $9,600) – 7 consecutive cuts made, three going for top 11’s including last week’s 7th. Earned a 50th here last season, was 35th in 2017 and seems like a steal to me based on his salary numbers.

Byeong Hun An (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,000, FanDuel – $10,900) – Is usually a safe bet to make the cut on any given week – missing only 4 cuts in 23 tournaments last season. Is making his tournament debut but his tee to green game fits well on this course and he should fare quite well this week.

Wyndham Clark (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,400, FanDuel – $9,200) – Clark missed The Tour Championship but played in the first two playoff events where he went 18th and 31st. Was only 54th here last season but had a sound performance in 2017 where he finished 17th. Has made 7 straight cuts and has 3 top 17’s within that time period.

5 Value Pick Players

D.J. Trahan (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,800, FanDuel – $8,400) – Has a 6th, 41st, and a 36th in his last three tournaments, and has a pretty good track record at this tournament with a 7th last year and a 10th on 2016.

Shawn Stefani (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,700, FanDuel – $8,400) – OK so he missed the cut last week but before that he had 6 straight cuts made and five of those were top 39’s. Even better is that he was 7th at this event last season and was 10th in 2017.

Johnson Wagner (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,400, FanDuel – $8,200) – Straight up I think he’s mispriced this week as he has made 6 straight cuts and is sound on this course with a 35th last year, a 34th in 2017, and a 15th in 2016 proves that his skillset works on this track.

Cameron Tringale (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,300, FanDuel – $8,800) – Is coming off a 36th last week, and has a 50th and a 53rd over the last two years at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Roberto Castro (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,400, FanDuel – $9,200) – I might sound like a broken record but he has made the cut in each of his last six events and has dominated at this tournament with a 5th last season and a 4th in 2016. If he gets another top 5 this week then he’s a total steal at his salary numbers, even a top 20 for him will pay off in spades.

Just because the field isn’t strong in names this week doesn’t mean your lineups need to be poor! Look for value, build strong 6-player lineups and all the best with your finishes on Sunday evening.
