Coming off of a major PGA Tour tournament there’s always a bit of a hangover – not just for the players, but for fantasy sports users as well. I felt that way yesterday but today is a new day and I’m ready to get my DFS lineups together again for another great week of golf. The field has some quality golfers in it for a week after a major including Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Francesco Molinari, Paul Casey, and other household names. Missing in the field is Gary Woodland who had a heck of a week last week to win the U.S. Open, so he’s understandably taking a much deserved week off to celebrate and savor the win.
This week is the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut – a 6,841-yard par 70 track, Poa
Onto my picks for this week, below outlines 10 stars and 5 value picks (in no particular order) for the Travelers Championship this week, and DraftKings and FanDuel salaries are documented as well.
10 Stars To Get In Your Lineups
Paul Casey (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,500, FanDuel – $11,300) – Has been very dominant at this tournament over the last four years with two 2nd place finishes, a 5th, and a 17th. Shot a 67 this past Sunday at the U.S. Open to pull down a 21st place finish. Has a win this season, 4 top 10’s, and should be poised for a big week – he’s my pick to win.
Bubba Watson (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,900, FanDuel – $10,200) – Has been playing poorly lately with two missed cuts and a 63rd. So why is he on my list you might be wondering?! He has won this tournament three times and even though this course is quite short, it still plays quite well for the long ball hitters and Bubba fits snuggly in that category.
Brooks Koepka (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,800, FanDuel – $12,600) – Got off to a fast start to his final round on Sunday with four birdies in his first five holes, but came up short to win his third straight U.S. Open with a 2nd. Has a win, two 2nd place finishes, and a 4th in his last five starts and has a sound track record at this tournament. Is the most expensive option this week but if he wins then he’s worth every penny.
Patrick Cantlay (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,300, FanDuel – $11,500) – Won The Memorial earlier this month and is coming off a 21st at the U.S. Open. Has 9 top 10’s this season in 14 starts, was 15th here last year and shot a 60 on this track 8 years ago. His star is rising fast and
Francesco Molinari (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,300, FanDuel – $11,000) – No top 10’s since The Masters when he had a nice tidy 5th place finish, but his short game plays very well, and he has two starts at this tournament where he’s earned a 25th and a 47th in 2015 and 2016. Won The Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March.
Kevin Streelman (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,200, FanDuel – $9,500) – Is a must start this week as he won here in 2014 and has 4 top 10’s in 11 starts at this tournament. Has a 4th and two 6th places finishes in his last five starts, and has made five straight cuts with his worst finish being a 45th. He’s very well priced at $8,200 so get him in your lineups.
Marc Leishman (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,100, FanDuel – $10,500) – Won here in 2012, is coming off a 35th at the U.S. Open last week, and he had a 5th in his previous start before that. His win in 2012 was his first on the PGA Tour, so this tournament certainly holds a special place in his heart.
Louis Oosthuizen (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,800, FanDuel – $10,400) – Was solid last week at the U.S. Open with a 7th place finish thanks to his excellent 66 in round one and his scorching putting that led the field. Has 6 top 10’s this season, and in his last start at this tournament he was 17th.
Jordan Spieth (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,700, FanDuel – $11,400) – Looked like he was just going to be an average player on the PGA Tour for a while until recently as his game has really taken off with a 3rd, 7th, and 8th in his last four starts. Won this tournament in 2017 in his debut and will be looking to add victory number two on Sunday evening.
Jason Day (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,000, FanDuel – $11,100) – No top 10’s since The Masters where he earned a 5th place result (much like Molinari above) but he does have two top 20’s in his last three starts at this tournament.
5 Value Pick Players To Consider
Viktor Hovland (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,900, FanDuel – $9,800) – The amateur is starting to attract a bunch of attention as the young man from Norway earned a 40th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a 32nd at The Masters, and a remarkable 12th at the U.S. Open last week with a brilliant 4 under par on Sunday. Those are his last three starts so he’s certainly trending in the right direction and could lock up a top 10 this week through his sky-high confidence and his solid skill set.
Danny Lee (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,500, FanDuel – $8,600) – Coming off a 20th at the Canadian Open under two weeks ago, has two top 15’s over the past two years on this track and also had a 25th in 2015. This place seems to be a good one for him and another fine finish could come on Sunday.
Sebastian Muñoz (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,200, FanDuel – $8,200) – Has a 10th and an 11th in his past two starts at the Canadian Open and AT&T Byron Nelson respectively, and also earned a 7th on the Web.com Tour in between those two starts so his game is in great shape right now and another juicy paycheck could land on his lap this week.
Abraham Ancer (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,400, FanDuel – $8,900) – Has made 7 out of his last 8 cuts even in most of the big tournaments where the fields are the strongest. Coming off a 49th last week with a 68 and a 69 in his middle two rounds.
Anirban Lahiri (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,900, FanDuel – $7,600) – Hasn’t been playing very well this season but has a soft landing this week where he had a 17th in 2017 and was 9th last year.
