DFS Golf: 10 High-Priced Picks and 5 Value Picks for the 3M Open

Nate Lashley surprisingly took the cake last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic with two remarkable 63’s on his scorecard, and he wasn’t even available for DFS lineups as he was a late alternate addition to get into the tournament. Unreal! With the Detroit-based tournament now in our rearview mirror, we turn our attention to Blaine, Minnesota, for the second straight new PGA Tour event, the 3M Open. The field again this week isn’t overly strong but still has the world’s top-ranked golfer in Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama, and Bryson DeChambeau in it, and some other decent caliber talent set to tee it up as well.

3M Open DFS.jpgWith just two weeks away from the Open Championship in Ireland, it’s easy to get into major mode early and slip this week in what is a C-level PGA Tour event, but we as fantasy sports players can’t do that and must stay focused on performing well. The 3M Open is being played at TPC Twin Cities starting on the 4th of July – the track is a 7,481-yard par 71, with bentgrass greens which we haven’t seen for a few weeks on Tour. The field is a jam-packed 156-player field with the top 70 plus ties getting to play beyond round 2 on Friday to see what can be done on the weekend. The key stats to keep your eyes on this week are Strokes Gained: Approach, Birdies or Better Gained, Par 5s Gained, and Par 4s Gained: 450-500 Yards.

Let’s get to my selections for the 3M Open this week, below you can find 10 high-priced golfers to get into your DFS lineups and 5 value picks (in no specific order), and you can also find their salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel too.

10 High-Priced Players To Get In Your Lineups

Joaquin Niemann (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,300, FanDuel – $10,200) – Has gone back to back with 5th place finishes, and has made the cut five straight starts finishing no worse than 31st. Is playing his best golf ever, is knocking on the door towards a big win and it could come this week if his strong consistency remains intact.

Hideki Matsuyama (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,100, FanDuel – $11,500) – He has yet to miss a cut in 17 starts this season and has finished no worse than 32nd in his last 13 starts, with a 6th coming at The Memorial not long ago. Was 13th last week with a consistent showing of scores ranging between 67 to 70. Has 4 top 10’s this season and is due to add a 5th soon.

Scott Piercy (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,200, FanDuel – $9,600) – Was really rolling for a while until he was slowed down by a missed cut at the Canadian Open, but bounced back in his most recent start at the U.S. Open with a 52, no thanks to his final round 77. Has 6 top 10’s this season with just 3 missed cuts in 19 starts and another good showing should come this week for Piercy.

Brooks Koepka (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,900, FanDuel – $12,600) – Will his play this week be major-level caliber or just an average week caliber? He has the talent to blow this field away by 10 strokes if his head is in the game and he plays motivated to win. Had four top 4’s in five starts before placing 57th at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. Has 7 top 10’s this season and it would be a shame if he didn’t earn number 8 on Sunday.

Rory Sabbatini (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,500, FanDuel – $10,000) – Has made 12 cuts in a row, and has three top 6’s in his last five starts including a 3rd last week with four rounds of 69 or under. Has only missed 3 cuts in 20 starts this season, and I really like him to finish top 5 again this week.

Kevin Streelman (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,900, FanDuel – $9,800) – Is really rolling right now with 7 cuts made in a row, and his worst finish during that stretch is a 45th with two 6ths and a 4th in the same timeframe. Coming off a 35th last week and had he avoided his score of 73 on Sunday, he had the potential to finish top 10 again. He’s my favorite player in the $8K range this week.

Jason Day (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,900, FanDuel – $11,400) – His stats say that he is a major contender this week to win and he is coming off an 8th at the Travelers Championship. Still doesn’t have a win this season yet but does have 6 top 10’s in 15 starts this season, and is due to win sooner or later.

Patrick Reed (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,000, FanDuel – $10,700) – Had been quiet in the top 10 department until last week where he earned a 5th. If he keeps his cool and doesn’t break any more putters then he can nail down another top 10 finish this week. Even if you don’t like him as a person, you should still like him as a golfer to bet on.

Bryson DeChambeau (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,500, FanDuel – $11,000) – Tied Day at the Travelers Championship with an 8th in his last start thanks to 21 birdies over his four rounds in that tournament, and has won twice this season between the PGA Tour and Euro Tour. 6 top 10’s this season in 17 starts and this week he should be motivated to add number 7.

Sungjae Im (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,000, FanDuel – $9,800) – I’m thinking that Im is a good start this week with three straight top 21’s over his last three starts and had a 7th in his best finish during that trio of tournaments. Has been very busy this season with 27 starts and has 6 top 10’s.

5 Value Pick Players To Pair Up With High-End Players

Peter Malnati (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,800, FanDuel – $8,700) – Has played five straight full weekends in his last five starts and his finishes range from 17th to 40th. Doesn’t have a top 10 this season but has only missed one cut in his last 12 starts so he offers good value at his current price point.

Collin Morikawa (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,900, FanDuel – $9,100) – Was relatively unknown to mainstream golf fans until he arrived on the PGA Tour scene early last month at the Canadian Open where he pulled down a 14th, then secured an impressive 35th at the U.S. Open, and in his last start he had a 36th at the Travelers Championship. I like to ride hot players in DFS and Morikawa will be in my lineups until he cools off.

Doc Redman (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,200, FanDuel – NA) – Another player that was largely unknown until recently but secured a runner up finish last week, and had an 18th at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.

Mackenzie Hughes (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,400, FanDuel – $8,700) – Four straight cuts made upon arrival with an 8th, 14th, 51th, and a 21st last week. His tee to green is strong as is his proximity to the hole, and as long as his putting holds up then he should have another respectable finish this week.

Cameron Tringale (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,700, FanDuel – $8,900) – Coming off his best finish of the season with a 5th last week, and has only missed one cut in his last 7 starts.

If your lineups are looking soft then don’t fret as all of them will be on DraftKings and FanDuel, so just do what you can and win your contests!
