DFS Golf: 10 Superb and 5 Value Picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Daily Fantasy Golf Tips

This week presents a new challenge for PGA players and golf fantasy sports users as the PGA Tour shifts to Detroit, Michigan, for the brand new event Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club. To be brutally honest, aside from stars including Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Gary Woodland, and a few B-list players, the field this week is quite weak. Chez Reavie won the Travelers last week and is surprisingly in the field this week – most PGA players take at least the following week off after a win but Chez is a gamer and will tee it up again this week.

Starting on Thursday, the PGA heads to Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage Challenge at Detroit Golf Club – the course is a 7,340-yard par 72, with Poa Annua greens. The field once again is a full 156 player field and the top 70 golfers plus ties will get to play past Friday and cash a paycheck. There are some key stats to examine this week including Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, Par 5s Gained, Eagles Gained, and Par 4s Gained: 350-450 Yards.

Let’s get to my picks, below you can find 10 superb golfers to get into your DFS lineups and 5 value picks (in no specific order) for the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week, and you can also find their salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel too.

10 Top-End Players To Get In Your Lineups

dustin johnson PGA.jpgDustin Johnson (Salaries: DraftKings – $12,000, FanDuel – $12,500) – Has cooled down a bit after his blistering streak of top 10 finishes, with a 20th and 35th in his last two starts, but is sure to heat up again soon and I think it comes this week in a hurting field. The only reason not to be bullish on him this week is because of his high price tag and the challenge of finding lower-priced players to round out lineups.

Hideki Matsuyama (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,200, FanDuel – $11,300) – He has yet to miss a cut in 16 starts this season and has finished no worse than 32nd in his last 12 starts, with a 6th coming at The Memorial very recently. His overall stats are solid all around and should finish top 10 this week.

Jason Dufner (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,000, FanDuel – $9,500) – Duff has the right stuff when his game is on, and right now it is. He’s a ball striking machine and if he could putt better he would be dangerous on a weekly basis. He has a 4th and a 7th in his last five starts and is coming off a 35th in his last start at the U.S. Open.

Billy Horschel (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,000, FanDuel – $10,400) – He’s money in the bank, has only missed one cut in 18 starts this season and is playing well at the moment with four top 32’s in a row including a 9th at The Memorial. Great for use in cash games or GPP’s and comes at a fair price point.

Rory Sabbatini (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,500, FanDuel – $9,400) – Has made 11 cuts in a row and in that long stretch his worst finish is a 43rd which came in his last start at the U.S. Open in a very strong field. Had a 5th and 6th in his last four starts, and I really like him at his salary numbers on DK and FD.

Kevin Streelman (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,600, FanDuel – $9,500) – Streelman is playing some fantastic golf right now with 6 cuts made in a row and he has a 4th and two 6ths within that stretch. Was 15th last week at the Travelers with all four rounds being under 70. Is very consistent right now and I see no reason why he doesn’t have another top 20 this week.

Ryan Moore (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,500, FanDuel – $10,200) – Is coming off a 15th at the Travelers last week thanks to his sensational 64 in round two on Friday, and plays very well on the courses designed by Donald Ross who coincidentally is behind the Detroit Golf Course. Is 3rd in fairways hit on the PGA Tour – should hit lots of them this week and put together four strong rounds for a good finish.

Rickie Fowler (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,200, FanDuel – $11,700) – A tad overpriced this week in my opinion but he does have 6 top 10’s this season and just one missed cut. Hasn’t had a top 10 finish since early last month at the Wells Fargo Championship when he placed 4th, but he’s overdue for another one and in this field he should get one this week with his talent level.

Chez Reavie (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,700, FanDuel – $10,900) – Coming off the big win last week at the Travelers, his first win in 11 years on the PGA Tour. Don’t expect him to win again this week but in his start, before his win, he had a 3rd at the U.S. Open and has 5 top 10’s this season. When he’s hot he’s hot and I think he stays hot this week.

Gary Woodland (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,900, FanDuel – $11,200) – Like Reavie above, Woodland is also coming off a massive win which came at the U.S. Open with solid scoring of 68-65-69-69. Was 8th three starts ago at the PGA Championship and has only missed one cut this season in 18 starts. Leads the PGA Tour in ball striking, is an elite putter, and eats up par 5s.

5 Value Pick Players To Pair Up With High-End Players

Peter Malnati (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,500, FanDuel – $8,500) – His worst finish in his past four starts is 40th and was 30th last week after getting off to a hot start in round one with a 66. Has only missed one cut in his last 11 starts and is a safe option to use in combination with higher priced players.

Vaughn Taylor (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,600, FanDuel – $8,800) – Is coming off his best finish of the season with a 4th last week at the Travelers and has made five consecutive cuts and just one missed cut in his last 9 starts.

Martin Laird (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,500, FanDuel – $9,200) – Fell apart a bit this past Sunday with a 72 to finish 21st at the Travelers after being 6th after round three – like Taylor (above) he has made five cuts in a row, and just one missed cut in his last 7 starts.

Max Homa (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,300, FanDuel – $8,500) – Won at the Wells Fargo Championship last month with a dazzling 63 in his second round. Missed the cut on the number last week but I think he comes back strong this week for a top 30 finish. That missed cut last week was his first in his past seven starts and just has two missed cuts in his last 12 starts.

Harris English (Salaries: DraftKings – $6,800, FanDuel – $8,100) – Got an MDF last week after round 3 but has still made six cuts in a row and has just missed five cuts in a whopping 22 starts this season. Comes in at a very good price compared to the players around him in his price range for the week.

Your lineups won’t look too impressive this week with the weak field in play, but here’s to hoping that your results are impressive!
