I haven’t had the time to do DFS recaps this month, but I have had some requests to go back over things, so I’ll do a quick one today.
Honestly, there isn’t much to discuss, FantasyData’s NBA projections are usually very close to the actual result. It’s nice to break out the fire emoji now and then, but the truth is, we want things as close to the end result as possible. Julius Randle didn’t reach his projected total yesterday but he was close. The Knicks were 13-point favorites and his minutes were reduced second half when they were up big. The big takeaway here is something you (should) already know, in blowout games, star players will see less time late when the game is in control. A contrarian approach would be to anticipate less time due to such an event and take middle-tier players or target players in games with a small point spread.
Studs DFS Player
Kristaps Porzingis | Washington Wizards
FantasyData Projection: 42 | DraftKings Cost: $9300
Throughout the season, Kristaps Porzingis has shown he is worth adding regardless of his price tag or matchup. The Celtics come into the game ranked 3rd in points allowed to PFs. However, Porzingis has still averaged 42.9 fantasy points per game against such opponents. Also working in his favor is the fact that Kyle Kuzma is set to miss today’s matchup, meaning Porzingis should play a more prominent role in the offensive game plan.
Trae Young | Atlanta Hawks
FantasyData Projection: 46 | DraftKings Cost: $9100
Today’s game will be the second time that Trae Young has faced off against the Cavaliers. This year he is averaging 47.7 fantasy points and finished with 48.9 in his previous game against Cleveland. For the season, he is averaging 34.5 minutes per game and has a usage rate of 33.3 which is 2nd among today’s options.
Donovan Mitchell | Cleveland Cavaliers
FantasyData Projection: 42 | DraftKings Cost: $8600
Even though the Hawks have been playing a little better on defense of late, they are still ranked just 24th in points allowed per game. So far, Mitchell is averaging 44.0 fantasy points per game against defenses in the bottom third of the league in points allowed. In his most recent game, he complied 35.25 fantasy points across 36 minutes vs. the Rockets.
Evan Mobley | Cleveland Cavaliers
FantasyData Projection: 35 | DraftKings Cost: $8100
From a usage rate perspective, Evan Mobley is someone trending in the right direction. Mobley has now surpassed his season-long field-goal attempt figure (12.1) in 4 straight games. In his last outing, Mobley shot 66.7% from the floor on his way to 19 points, including 41.75 fantasy points. Through 74 games, Mobley is averaging 35.7 fantasy points per contest.

OG Anunoby | Toronto Raptors
FantasyData Projection: 30 | DraftKings Cost: $6300
Heading into today’s game, OG Anunoby has a price tag of $6300 and has plenty of upside. Look for this game to be played at a fast pace, with both teams above the league average in possessions per contest. In addition, Anunoby has seen his usage rate go up in each of his last two games. Across the entire season, he is averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 35.6 minutes of action.

Dillon Brooks | Memphis Grizzlies
FantasyData Projection: 24 | DraftKings Cost: $5000

In terms of three-point shooting, Brooks has surpassed his season average of 1.9 made threes per game in two straight contests. Overall, he is averaging 24.4 fantasy points.
Herbert Jones | New Orleans Pelicans
FantasyData Projection: 20 | DraftKings Cost: $4800

For the season, Jones is averaging 23.4 fantasy points per game against teams in the bottom third of the league in points allowed.
