Dynasty Football Buy Low/Sell High
Now that the NFL trade deadline has come and gone and we’ve had the chance to see new faces in their new places, it’s time to prepare for your dynasty league’s trade deadline. You may be reaching a point in the season where some teams have checked out and already mailed it in for next year. If that’s the case and some of the players we’re talking about are on their rosters, shoot your shot. Weekly, I’m going to focus on some buy-low and sell-high players to help you reach your dynasty goals. With that being said, let’s get into it.
Buy-Low Trade Targets
Amon-Ra St. Brown – WR, Detroit Lions
Like I just said, shoot your shot.
Amon-Ra St. Brown managers could be growing tired of what he’s been able to give them over the majority of the 2022 season.
Out of the gate, St. Brown went for 17 receptions, 180 yards and 3 touchdowns over his first two games. Since then, he’s gone for 22 receptions, 219 yards and 0 touchdowns in 5 games. While his numbers have been down he still holds a 26 percent target share, while Josh Reynolds is sitting at 17.4 percent.
Given the potential changes at quarterback for the Lions in the offseason and their eliminating T.J. Hockenson from the offense, I would be trying my best to get St. Brown on my team before my league’s trade deadline.
Drake London – WR, Atlanta Falcons
Drake London should be at the top of all dynasty buy-low lists.
You wouldn’t think that given his stats so far this season of 33 receptions, 369 yards and 2 touchdowns but with regards to dynasty football, that doesn’t explain the full story. London is part of an offense whose quarterback is 22nd in the NFL in passing yards and 33rd among qualified quarterbacks in passing attempts per game with 22.3.
Similar to the Lions, it’s expected that Marcus Mariota is a short-term solution for the Falcons as they look ahead to the 2023 draft for their potential franchise quarterback.
If I’m rebuilding or stuck in the middle, the 21-year-old London is a player I’m targeting as I start to shape my team for the coming seasons.
D’Andre Swift – RB, Detroit Lions
We’re back talking Lions.
D’Andre Swift is a difficult player to have on your fantasy team. Since he’s been in the league, he’s played no more than 13 games in any season and has only played in parts of 5 games so far in 2022.
However, when he’s healthy and on the field, there are few better backs in the NFL. Similar to St. Brown above, the Lions are expected to shake things up in the offseason to help end their eternal rebuild.
Swift’s value is at a low point and there’s even potential that he can still help you this season. Even if that isn’t the case, the 23-year-old Swift is someone I’d target while hoping for good health in the seasons to come.
Sell-High Trade Suggestions
Tyler Allgeier – RB, Atlanta Falcons
Running back is ugly right now.
Between injuries and players underperforming, managers are scrambling to fill their RB1 & RB2 slots. That’s where Tyler Allgeier comes in.
Being a dynasty format, rookies hold value, especially rookies who are involved in the offensive game plan early in their careers. With the injury to Cordarrelle Patterson early in the season, Allgeier was thrust into his role and has done some good work.
In saying that, even though he saw most of the rushing work last week against the Chargers, Patterson was involved and he seems to be back to full health. As he continues to be reintegrated into the offense, Patterson will eat away at Allgeier’s touches and value.
If I’m deeper at running back, I’d try to find the Jonathan Taylor, Dalvin Cook and Aaron Jones managers and sell them on Allgeier.
Mecole Hardman – WR, Kansas City Chiefs
It feels like we go through this every season with Hardman.
He strings together a few nice games in a row, everyone blows their FAAB and waiver wire priority to get him and then he returns back to 3 receptions for 49 yards and no touchdowns.
The good thing for dynasty managers is that the sell-high window continues to open each season. Coming off three straight games with a touchdown, he is a must-sell. He’s still only seeing 11 percent of the targets in Kansas City and now with Kadarius Toney added to the mix, there are too many mouths to feed and not enough food.
The only reliable target in this offense is Travis Kelce. Other than that, it could be a JuJu Smith-Schuster week, a Marquez Valdes-Scantling week and so on.
Save yourself the headache and move on while there’s value in Hardman’s game.
Curtis Samuel – WR, Washington Commanders
I feel like I’m going to have the same conversation about Curtis Samuel as I did with Hardman above.
Samuel fits that Hardman mould but on a much less talented offense. Over the first three weeks of the season, Samuel saw 22 receptions, 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. Since then, he’s hauled in 23 receptions for 274 yards and 1 touchdown in 6 games.
Much too unpredictable for my taste.
And now with their first-round rookie, Jahan Dotson expected to return to the lineup in a few weeks, Samuel’s numbers will be impacted even further. It’s the right time to get out of your shares.
Redraft leagues are a sprint, dynasty leagues are a marathon. It’s important to stay level-headed and avoid making rash decisions based on week-to-week results. It’s more important to pick a direction, make a plan and stick to it. Stay tuned to FantasyData for weekly buy/sell options to keep you on track.
