The Cleveland Indians called up relief pitcher Alexi Ogando from Triple-A Columbus on Friday. Ogando signed a minor league contract with Cleveland in December and posted strong numbers in Triple-A, earning his promotion. In 18 2/3 innings across four Triple-A starts, Ogando posted a 2.89 ERA with a 14:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Even though he was starting in the minors, Ogando will likely work in middle and long relief at the big league level. He won't have much fantasy value in that role.
The Cleveland Indians are signing pitcher Alexi Ogando to a minor league deal, according to a source. Ogando was successful as a reliever in Korea in 2017 but is hoping to be stretched out as a starter in spring training. The veteran right-hander last pitched for Atlanta in 2016, where he went 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 in 36 relief outings. He hasn't made a start in the major leagues since 2013 with the Rangers, and it'll be a long shot that he makes an impact in Cleveland's stacked rotation in 2018.
