Carlos Carrasco Designated for Assignment by Braves

Veteran starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. In the corresponding move, the team has recalled right-hander Hunter Stratton from Triple-A Gwinnett. Carrasco began the 2025 season with the New York Yankees but was acquired by Atlanta in late July. He made three starts for the Braves, allowing 15 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings pitched. In 45 2/3 total innings this season, the 38-year-old has pitched to a 7.09 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 34 strikeouts. Carrasco has not pitched to an ERA under 5.64 since the 2022 season, so this may be the end of the road on what's otherwise been a very solid career.

Braves Acquire Carlos Carrasco From Yankees

The Atlanta Braves acquired right-hander Carlos Carrasco from the New York Yankees on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. It's the second straight day that the Braves have acquired a right-handed starting pitcher to help their injury-plagued rotation, as they acquired Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. The 38-year-old Carrasco will hopefully eat innings for the Braves down the stretch, but his move to a secure starting role should only attract interest from fantasy managers in NL-only leagues. His first start for Atlanta could come this Thursday versus the Cincinnati Reds. The Venezuelan native was recently pitching at Triple-A for the Yanks and had a rough 5.91 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB in eight outings (six starts) in pinstripes this year.

Carlos Carrasco Designated For Assignment

New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was designated for assignment on Tuesday after posting a 5.91 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 10.6 percent K-BB% over eight appearances (six starts, 32 IP). The team recalled Yerry De Los Santos in a corresponding move, but as a reliever, the move doesn't fill the void in the rotation left by Carrasco. It's not clear what the Yankees' rotation plans are from here, although the team does have Allan Winans at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre who recently made headlines for striking out 10 of the first 11 batters he faced back on April 23, currently sporting a 0.00 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 5:24 BB:K in 14 IP. Regardless, look for Carrasco to latch on somewhere else, but he's probably best left to the waiver wire wherever that ends up being.

Carlos Carrasco Strikes Out Five, Picks Up Win

New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco earned the win on Thursday, striking out five in a 9-7 victory over the Diamondbacks. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks. The veteran is looking to rebound this year after posting a 5.64 and 6.80 ERA over the past two seasons. Things could become complicated once Clarke Schmidt is ready to return, as there's no guarantee Carrasco will stick in the rotation after that point. His next start is currently scheduled to be next week in Detroit.

Carlos Carrasco Likely To Earn Rotation Spot

With the way New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has raved about veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco's swing-and-miss stuff in camp, indications are that Carrasco is likely to open the regular season in the team's starting rotation, according to YES Network's Jack Curry. The 37-year-old has an opt-out on March 22, but Curry thinks Carrasco will remain with the team because of the fact that they need starting depth due to the injuries to Gerrit Cole (elbow) and Luis Gil (lat). Pitching prospect Will Warren has also been deserving of a rotation spot, but he has minor-league options remaining, and the Yankees apparently don't want to lose Carrasco. The veteran hurler has a 2.45 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in Grapefruit League play while striking out 12 and walking six in 11 innings. If Carrasco wins the final rotation spot in the Bronx, he'll merely be a low-upside, matchup-based streamer in deep leagues and DFS.

Carlos Carrasco Signs Minor-League Deal With Yankees

Free-agent right-hander Carlos Carrasco signed a minor-league deal with the New York Yankees on Monday. Carrasco went 3-10 with a bloated 5.64 ERA (4.93 FIP) in 103 2/3 innings over 21 starts for the Cleveland Guardians last season and will turn 38 in March. The deal that Carrasco signed includes an invitation to major-league spring training. The 37-year-old was booted from Cleveland's 40-man roster in September, making him a free agent. Given how much he has fallen off in recent years, he figures to open the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to provide the Yankees with starting-pitching depth. The veteran Venezuelan hurler pitched for the New York Mets from 2021-23 and had a 5.21 ERA (4.55), a 1.46 WHIP and 268:97 K:BB in 295 2/3 innings over 61 starts.

Carlos Carrasco Makes A Rehab Start

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco (hip) threw three innings in a minor-league rehab start for Double-A Akron on Friday and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three. Carrasco threw 41 pitches (27 for strikes) and felt OK afterwards. In 21 starts for Cleveland in 2024, he has gone 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA. "He's building back up. We want to make sure his hip is feeling better and everything is healed up," manager Stephen Vogt said on Sept. 3. "We want to get Cookie healed back up to be an option for us to start." The 37-year-old veteran went on the 15-day injured list back on Aug. 9 with a strained left hip and is slowing working his way back towards a late-season activation. However, with Carrasco struggling this year and with rookie Joey Cantillo holding his own as the No. 5 starter, it seems more likely that Carrasco will return to a bullpen role when he's fully healthy.

Carlos Carrasco Heads To 15-Day Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians placed right-hander Carlos Carrasco (hip) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a left-hip strain and recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. Cantillo is starting Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the hosting division-rival Minnesota Twins in just his third big-league start. Carrasco surrendered four runs in 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks and will now miss at least the next two weeks. The 37-year-old veteran should have already been on the waiver wire in mixed fantasy leagues. In his return to Cleveland this year, Carrasco has gone 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with a weak 19.9% strikeout rate in 21 starts covering 103 2/3 innings pitched.

Carlos Carrasco Strikes Out Seven, Picks Up Win On Friday

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco struck out seven in six innings of work while allowing just one earned run in the Guardians 7-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Carrasco improved his record to 3-6 on the season. The win was much needed for the 15-year vet as this was just his third quality start in 13 chances. The right-hander still has some work to do to get his numbers to a respectable level. His 5.13 xERA suggests he still has a long ways to go before he can become any type of reliable fantasy option. His next shot to keep turning around his season will be a real tough test on Wednesday as the Guardians will travel to Baltimore to face the Orioles at Camden Yards.

Carlos Carrasco Lands On Injured List With Neck Spasm

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco (neck), who was scheduled to start on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets, has been scratched and placed on the 15-day injured list with an acute neck spasm. Xzavion Curry has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus and will make the spot start on Tuesday. The 37-year-old Carrasco will be out for at least the next two weeks and possibly longer given his age. Although he currently has an ERA of 5.16 and a WHIP of 1.46 in 45 1/3 innings this year, Carrasco had been pitching better of late in his last three starts. However, he's also sporting a weak 17.2 percent strikeout rate and doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside in deeper leagues when he's in Cleveland's starting rotation.
