Carlos Carrasco Makes A Rehab Start

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco (hip) threw three innings in a minor-league rehab start for Double-A Akron on Friday and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three. Carrasco threw 41 pitches (27 for strikes) and felt OK afterwards. In 21 starts for Cleveland in 2024, he has gone 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA. "He's building back up. We want to make sure his hip is feeling better and everything is healed up," manager Stephen Vogt said on Sept. 3. "We want to get Cookie healed back up to be an option for us to start." The 37-year-old veteran went on the 15-day injured list back on Aug. 9 with a strained left hip and is slowing working his way back towards a late-season activation. However, with Carrasco struggling this year and with rookie Joey Cantillo holding his own as the No. 5 starter, it seems more likely that Carrasco will return to a bullpen role when he's fully healthy.

Carlos Carrasco Heads To 15-Day Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians placed right-hander Carlos Carrasco (hip) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a left-hip strain and recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. Cantillo is starting Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the hosting division-rival Minnesota Twins in just his third big-league start. Carrasco surrendered four runs in 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks and will now miss at least the next two weeks. The 37-year-old veteran should have already been on the waiver wire in mixed fantasy leagues. In his return to Cleveland this year, Carrasco has gone 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with a weak 19.9% strikeout rate in 21 starts covering 103 2/3 innings pitched.

Carlos Carrasco Strikes Out Seven, Picks Up Win On Friday

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco struck out seven in six innings of work while allowing just one earned run in the Guardians 7-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Carrasco improved his record to 3-6 on the season. The win was much needed for the 15-year vet as this was just his third quality start in 13 chances. The right-hander still has some work to do to get his numbers to a respectable level. His 5.13 xERA suggests he still has a long ways to go before he can become any type of reliable fantasy option. His next shot to keep turning around his season will be a real tough test on Wednesday as the Guardians will travel to Baltimore to face the Orioles at Camden Yards.

Carlos Carrasco Lands On Injured List With Neck Spasm

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco (neck), who was scheduled to start on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets, has been scratched and placed on the 15-day injured list with an acute neck spasm. Xzavion Curry has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus and will make the spot start on Tuesday. The 37-year-old Carrasco will be out for at least the next two weeks and possibly longer given his age. Although he currently has an ERA of 5.16 and a WHIP of 1.46 in 45 1/3 innings this year, Carrasco had been pitching better of late in his last three starts. However, he's also sporting a weak 17.2 percent strikeout rate and doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside in deeper leagues when he's in Cleveland's starting rotation.

Carlos Carrasco Makes Cleveland's Rotation

Veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco has made the Cleveland Guardians' Opening Day starting rotation and is slated to make his 2024 debut on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics and right-hander Paul Blackburn. Although the 37-year-old Carrasco doesn't have much fantasy appeal these days, he could be a sneaky streamer this weekend against the A's. We'll see how Carrasco fares to open the season, but when Gavin Williams (elbow) is healthy, there's a good chance Carrasco will be bumped from the rotation. In 20 starts (90 innings) for the New York Mets in 2023, he wasn't good, going 3-8 with a 6.80 ERA (5.86 FIP) and 1.70 WHIP while walking 38 and striking out 66. Carrasco will most likely serve as a multi-inning reliever for Cleveland for most of the year.

Carlos Carrasco Slated To Start Spring Opener

Cleveland Guardians right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco (finger) is expected to start Saturday's Spring Training game against the Cincinnati Reds, according to Nick Camino of WKYC. Carrasco inked a minor league deal this season with the Guardians, for whom he played 11 seasons from 2010 through 2020. He most recently pitched for the New York Mets, posting a 4.93 xFIP, 6.60 K/9, and 3.80 BB/9 through 20 starts last year before a 50-pound barbell fell on his finger and prematurely ended his season. A trusted veteran presence familiar with the Cleveland system, Carrasco will compete for a back-of-the-rotation role in camp.

Carlos Carrasco Returning To Guardians

Free-agent right-hander Carlos Carrasco signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to big-league spring training on Saturday with the Cleveland Guardians, according to sources. The 36-year-old veteran pitched for the Guardians from 2009-20. He spent the last three seasons with the Mets, going 19-20 with a bloated 5.21 ERA (4.55 FIP) and 1.46 WHIP with 97 walks and 268 strikeouts in 295 2/3 innings over 61 starts. He was even worse in 2023, posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 90 innings over 20 starts before fracturing his finger in September. The Guardians' starting rotation is already pretty set heading into the 2024 season, so Carrasco could open the year in a middle-relief role out of Cleveland's bullpen, making him unattractive in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Carlos Carrasco Waived By Mets

New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been waived by the team on Tuesday. The Mets have really struggled this season, but so has Carrasco. He has a 6.60 ERA, 1.70 WHIP in over 90 innings of work. At this point, the Mets are just trying to get some salary relief for the veteran pitcher. There was already a handful of other pitchers waived on Tuesday as well. Honestly, Carrasco has pitched the worst out of them all. That being said, playoff contending teams will probably all look elsewhere before considering Carrasco. A change of scenery isn't going to make him worth a gamble in fantasy leagues.

Carlos Carrasco Looking To Stay Strong Tuesday

New York Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco is looking to build on two consecutive excellent starts as he takes on the Atlanta Braves on the road Tuesday night. While Carrasco allowed five runs or more in three of his first four starts this season, he's also allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of his last four, including just one earned run allowed in each of his last two outings while logging at least six innings on both occasions. While he's turned his season around of late, the 36-year-old still sports a bloated 5.74 ERA while his 6.09 FIP, 5.40 SIERA, and tiny 13.9% K% leave plenty to be desired. He'll take on a dangerous Braves offense that is tied for 11th with a .324 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

Carlos Carrasco Set To Return Friday

New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (elbow) is expected to come off the injured list and start Friday's game against Cal Quantrill and the Cleveland Guardians, according to MLB.com. The right-hander hasn't pitched in big league action since April 15 after experiencing right elbow inflammation. Over Carrasco's first three starts, his numbers weren't pretty, pitching to an 8.56 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and 12.3% strikeout rate. However, given his track record, including a 3.97 ERA in 2022, fantasy managers can assume things will start to regress in the right direction. This doesn't change the rotation much, as there was already a spot open after the club demoted Joey Lucchesi and David Peterson.
