Noah Syndergaard Officially Activated, Carlos Gomez Designated For Assignment
The New York Mets have activated pitcher Noah Syndergaard off the 10-day IL Sunday to start the series finale against the Braves. Outfielder Carlos Gomez has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Syndergaard was put on the IL on June 16 with a hamstring strain and made one rehab start striking out nine over five innings, but did allow three runs to score. He's struggled to find consistency with the Mets this season with a 5-4 record while holding a 4.55 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 15 starts, but we're holding out hope he returns to dominant form at some point this season. He can be avoided in DFS lineups for tonight's game in a below-average matchup versus a hot Braves team.
The New York Mets finished off a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals Thursday afternoon with veteran outfielder Carlos Gomez delivering the big blow. Gomez, who started his career with the Mets 12 years ago, stepped to the plate in the eighth with two on. The 33-year-old delivered a three-run blast, putting New York back up after they'd allowed three runs in the top of the inning. It was one of two hits on the day for Gomez, who's already making an impact seven games into his major league season.
The New York Mets are expected to select the contract of Carlos Gomez from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. Gomez is hitting .270 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 35 games thus far with the Syracuse Mets. The veteran outfielder should see playing time right away with the injuries to Michael Conforto (concussion) and Jeff McNeil (abdomen) that occurred on Thursday. McNeil is day-to-day, while Conforto will miss some time. Gomez hasn't been a very productive player in years, but is worth monitoring for those in need of outfield help.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomezwent deep Sunday versus the Orioles. He would hit a solo HR to further the lead of the Rays. The HR was his ninth of the season to go with his 11 steals and a very poor .211 batting average. Gomez used to be a superstar with a great mix of power and speed but has struggled lately. Gomez has been in a slump this month along with no longer having an everyday starting job. He had potential this season but has not really achieved much. He should not be owned in most leagues.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez contributed in multiple categories Wednesday versus the Braves. He would score the final Rays run while driving in one earlier. Gomez also stole his 11th base of the season. Wednesday was a rare day of production for Gomez has been in a slump this month along with no longer having an everyday starting job. He had potential this season but has not really achieved much. He should not be owned in most leagues.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez contributed in multiple categories Wednesday versus the Royals. He would score twice while driving in one. Gomez also stole his 10th base of the season. Wednesday was a rare day of production for Gomez has been in a slump this month along with no longer having an everyday starting job. He had potential this season but has not really achieved much. Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez will lead off and play right field versus lefty David Price on Saturday. Gomez normally bats fifth or lower in the lineup, but will move up with a lefty on the mound. However, Gomez is hitting .043/.083/.043 off Price in his career. He should be avoided in fantasy leagues and DFS contests.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez had a good game Tuesday night after a potentially troubling early part of the day. Gomez reached base three times in the game versus Los Angeles. He would score a run, drive in two and even stole his eighth base of the season but the earlier part of the day was troubling for owners of Gomez. The Rays added Tommy Pham and Austin Meadows in separate trades. Pham will be with the team and expected to start Wednesday while Austin will start out in Triple-A. Gomez is likely on borrowed time as Pham and Kevin Kiermaier are now full-time starters while the other position will be split between Gomez and Mallex Smith (three hits and two runs Tuesday) until Meadows is ready.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez (rest) is not in the starting lineup for the second straight game on Tuesday. Jake Bauers, Kevin Kiermaier, and Mallex Smith will cover the outfield for the Rays on Tuesday. Gomez is hitting .423/.559/.692 over the last two weeks, but does not see regular playing time anymore. A trade could help his fantasy value, but he's only worth owning in AL-only leagues right now.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carlos Gomez got in on the fun Saturday versus the Twins. In a game where Tampa Bay would score 19 runs, Gomez homered. He would total two runs scored and two driven, including his eighth homer of the season. The truth is that this has been a terrible season for Gomez who is only hitting .216, which is actually up over the past eight days. He still has some physical talent and he used to be a superstar. Right now, he is only really a factor in the deepest leagues.
