Casey Mize Set to Start on Saturday

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin, wrist) will start on Saturday against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park, according to MLB.com. Mize was hit by a comebacker on his left wrist and aggravated a groin injury in his last start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels, but the two injuries weren't enough to keep him from going this weekend in Motown in a plus matchup. He was able to throw his normal between-starts bullpen session this week and is ready to roll, so fantasy managers should get ready to throw him back into their starting lineups. The 29-year-old former first overall pick in 2018 out of Auburn has had a career year in 2026, going 4-6 with a 2.79 ERA (2.62 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with 82 strikeouts and 19 walks in 80 2/3 frames across his 15 starts. Mize has dealt with some injuries and spent time on the injured list, but when available, he's been great, and he also has a career-best 25.6% strikeout rate. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last four starts.

Casey Mize Expected to Make his Next Start

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin, wrist) left his start early on July 19 after taking a comebacker off his left hand/wrist area while also suffering a mild aggravation of his groin injury. Mize felt fine throwing on Monday, though, and will do his normal pre-start routine with the expectation that he will make his next scheduled start, according to MLB.com. Barring a setback, the 29-year-old is lined up to face the Kansas City Royals this Sunday. The former first overall pick from Auburn University in 2018 is having the best year of his career in 2026 with a 2.79 ERA (2.62 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with 82 strikeouts and 19 walks in 80 2/3 innings across 15 starts. Mize has dealt with injuries, but when he's been available, he's been consistent for fantasy managers and the Tigers. He has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts with two wins, five walks, and 24 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings in that span. If Mize is officially cleared to start on Sunday, he'll be a strong streaming option against the division-rival Royals.

Casey Mize Pulled Early on Sunday With Groin, Wrist Injuries

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that right-hander Casey Mize (groin, wrist) was pulled from his start early on Sunday in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels with groin tightness and a wrist issue after being hit by a comebacker, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Mize will have more rehab and tests on his groin, but he said he left the game as a precaution. The 29-year-old only made it through 3 1/3 innings on Sunday, allowing an earned run on five hits while walking one and striking out five for a no-decision. He was pulled in the fourth inning after he was hit by a groundball off the bat of Angels outfielder Jo Adell in the left hand/wrist, but Mize had already been feeling tightness in his groin at that point. Mize should be considered day-to-day for now, and although his injuries don't appear to be very serious, his next scheduled start against the division-rival Kansas City Royals on Friday, July 24, should be considered up in the air. He's already missed time in 2026 due to injury, but Mize is currently in the midst of his best year as a pro, coming into his start on Sunday with a 2.79 ERA (2.69 FIP) and 0.99 WHIP with 77 K's and 18 walks across his 14 starts.

Casey Mize Bounces Back With Dominant Outing Against Yankees

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize was in top form on Monday night in the Bronx in the team's 7-3 win over the hosting New York Yankees. Mize cruised through seven shutout innings with only one hit allowed, no walks, and a season-high 10 strikeouts to lower his season ERA to 2.63 and pick up his third win of the 2026 season. It was nice to see from Mize, who had allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out nine in only 10 1/3 innings in his last two starts against the Houston Astros and Yankees. The 29-year-old former first overall pick out of Auburn University in 2018 has kept the good times rolling in 2026 after making his first All-Star squad in 2025. Mize is now sporting a 2.63 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 68:14 K:BB in 65 innings across his 12 starts, and he also has a career-high strikeout rate in his sixth year in the big leagues. Fantasy managers should be leaving Mize in their starting lineups for his next scheduled outing against a banged-up Texas Rangers club.

Casey Mize Activated and Starting on Wednesday in Houston

The Detroit Tigers announced on Wednesday that they activated right-hander Casey Mize (groin) from the 15-day injured list and placed infielder Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day IL with a left-oblique strain in a corresponding move. Mize is returning from an adductor strain that has kept him sidelined since May 27. In his only minor-league rehab start, the 29-year-old went five innings and threw only 55 pitches last Tuesday, so we'd advise against using him as a streamer on Wednesday, even in the favorable matchup at Daikin Park. The former first overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft out of Auburn University has kept the positive momentum going this year after being named a first-time All-Star in 2025 in his fifth year in the majors. Mize is returning to a 2-3 record, career-best 2.27 ERA (2.40 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 49:12 K:BB, and career-high 26.5% walk rate in 47 2/3 frames over his nine starts. He is rostered in 62% of Yahoo leagues and is worth a pickup off the waiver wire for additional rotation depth in mixed leagues.

Casey Mize to Return on Sunday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (adductor) will be activated off the 15-day Injured List ahead of Sunday's game. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed on Friday that Mize will rejoin the team and start versus the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Mize is back in action after being sidelined since late May due to right adductor inflammation. Through nine starts, Mize has a 2.27 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 49:12 K:BB ratio across 47.2 innings this season. It's worth noting that Mize only threw 55 pitches during his most recent rehab start. He might not see a full workload during his first start back against Cleveland on Sunday. The right-hander is still worth stashing given his success on the mound early this season.

Casey Mize Likely to Pitch on Sunday Against Cleveland

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin) is likely to return from the 15-day injured list to start against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians on Sunday in the series finale, but the Tigers are waiting for him to complete his bullpen session on Thursday before setting that in stone, according to Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group. Right-hander Jack Flaherty will get the ball for Friday's series opener, with lefty Tarik Skubal (elbow) returning from the IL to pitch on Saturday in Game 2. Mize has been sidelined with inflammation in his right groin since late May, but he looked good during his lone minor-league rehab start, allowing just one run in five innings with five strikeouts for Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday. The 29-year-old former first overall pick in 2018 out of Auburn University has never been a big strikeout artist, but he has a career-best 26.5% strikeout rate in 2026 and has posted a strong 2.27 ERA (2.41 FIP) and 0.96 WHIP with 49 strikeouts and 12 walks in his nine starts for Detroit before landing on the IL. Don't dismiss Mize as a matchup-based streamer in fantasy leagues. He's rostered in just over half of Yahoo leagues.

Casey Mize Goes Five Innings in Rehab Start With Low-A

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin) looked good in a minor-league rehab start with Low-A Lakeland on Tuesday, allowing an earned run on three hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out five in five innings of work, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. He threw 36 of his 55 pitches for strikes in the outing. It was the 29-year-old's first rehab start since landing on the 15-day injured list with a groin injury, and it could be his last before rejoining Detroit's starting rotation when he's first eligible to return for a matchup in Sunday's series finale in Cleveland against the division-rival Guardians. Mize has been solid in his first nine starts this year for the Tigers, going 2-3 with a 2.27 ERA (2.42 FIP) and 0.96 WHIP with 49 strikeouts and 12 walks in 47 2/3 innings, but he won't be a recommended streamer for fantasy managers if he starts on Sunday for Detroit in what will likely be a limited pitch count. But with a career-high 26.5% strikeout rate so far in 2026, Mize isn't a terrible matchup-based streamer in mixed leagues, and he's rostered in just over half of Yahoo leagues.

Casey Mize to Make Rehab Start on Tuesday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (adductor) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start at Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday. Mize has been sidelined since late May due to right adductor inflammation. The expectation is that Mize will only need one rehab start before rejoining the Tigers' rotation. There's a chance that Mize is back in the mix by the next weekend series versus the Cleveland Guardians. This season, Mize owns a 2.27 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 49:12 K:BB ratio across nine starts. The right-hander has looked strong early in the season and is worth scooping up for fantasy managers seeking pitching help right now.

Casey Mize Throws a Bullpen, Injured List Stint Could be Short

Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday after just being placed on the 15-day injured list last Friday with inflammation in his right groin, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. It's unclear what is next for Mize, but it's looking like he might be ready to return to the Tigers' starting rotation when he's eligible to come off the IL on June 12. That would only happen if the team feels that he doesn't need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. Mize doesn't have a ton of strikeout upside, although he does have a career-best 26.5% strikeout rate so far in 2026 in his nine starts for Detroit. After being named an All-Star for the first time in 2025, Mize has gone 2-3 this year with a career-best 2.27 ERA (2.41 FIP) and 0.96 WHIP with 49 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 47 2/3 innings pitched. He has a smaller margin for error than other starting pitchers, but he has become more attractive as a matchup-based streamer so far in 2026. Mize is currently rostered in just over half of Yahoo leagues.
