Clayton Richard News

White Sox Bring Back Clayton Richard

The Chicago White Sox have signed pitcher Clayton Richard to a minor league deal. This will be the leftys second stint with the White Sox. Richard spent appeared in 10 games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019, but was released after posting a 1-5 record to go along with a 5.96 ERA. The lefty has pitched as both a starter and reliever throughout his career and will operate as organizational depth for his new club. He can be avoided across fantasy formats.

Clayton Richard Released By Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays starter Clayton Richard has been released by the team on Thursday. The 36-year-old made 10 starts with the Blue Jays this season, producing a record of 1-5 to go along with a 5.96 ERA and 22 strikeouts through 45 1/3 innings. Richard did not appear in a game with the team since landing on the 10-day injured list with a left lat strain in mid July. The 36-year-old is not someone worth monitoring across any fantasy formats in the future.

Clayton Richard Hits Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Clayton Richard (lat) on the injured list on Sunday for the second time this year. The veteran left-hander left his start early on Saturday against the Yankees after suffering a left lat strain. There is no timetable for the 35-year-old's return, but lat strains can often keep pitchers out for a month or more, so don't expect him back anytime soon. Jacob Waguespack and Sean Reid-Foley are candidates to start next Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Richard has posted a weak 5.96 ERA over 45 1/3 innings (10 starts) with 18 walks and 22 strikeouts this year and can continue to be left to the waiver wire. Edwin Jackson will rejoin the team's bullpen with Richard on the shelf, but he can be ignored everywhere as well.

Clayton Richard Takes Loss Despite Quality Start

Toronto Blue Jays starter Clayton Richard allowed three runs on eight hits through six innings of work during a 4-3 loss to the New York Yankees. He struck out a single batter while walking one. The 35-year-old is now has a 0-4 record on the season to go along with a 6.89 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 15/16 K/BB rate. He has no fantasy value, regardless of who he is facing.

Clayton Richard Ineffective In No-Decision

Toronto Blue Jays starter Clayton Richard allowed four runs on six hits in five innings of work during a 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. The 35-year-old has not been a bright spot in the Blue Jays' rotation this season. Richard owns a 0-3 record with a 7.31 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP in 25 1/3 innings. A date with the New York Yankees is the next projected start for Richard, so avoid him at all costs for that contest.

Clayton Richard Allows Two Runs In Four Innings On Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Clayton Richard allowed two runs on three hits through four innings of work during a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Richard struggled with his control, walking four batters while striking out three. The 35-year-old has only started two games for the Blue Jays this season, allowing a combined three runs over eight innings. He is useful waiver wire fodder against mediocre opponents but offers no long-term value. Richard is expected to face the New York Yankees in his next start.

Clayton Richard Activated From Injured List

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Clayton Richard will make his season debut on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox. Richard will be limited to 50-60 pitches, with long man Sam Gaviglio likely to follow in relief. Jimmy Cordero has been sent to Triple-A Buffalo as a corresponding move. The 35-year-old finished 2018 with an ERA of 5.33 and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Clayton Richard To Make Season Debut Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Clayton Richard (knee) will start on Thursday against the Red Sox in his season debut and will go around 50 to 60 pitches. The left-hander threw a bullpen session on Monday and made a three-inning rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. The matchup on Thursday is a terrible one, but Richard wouldn't be a good streamer in any format regardless of the matchup. The 35-year-old has a weak 5.8 career K/9 in 10 seasons in the big leagues and should be left to deep AL-only leagues as a matchup-based play.

Clayton Richard To Go On Rehab Assignment

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Clayton Richard (knee) will not start for the Blue Jays on Saturday but will instead make at least one rehab start in the minor leagues before making his season debut. The 35-year-old left-hander has yet to pitch in the majors this year. He went 7-11 with a 5.33 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 6.1 K/9 in his 27 starts for the Padres in 2018. With a career 5.8 K/9, Richard just doesn't miss enough bats to be relevant in mixed leagues at this stage of his career. Pitching at hitter-friendly Rogers Centre in the American League East might be a nightmare for him.

Clayton Richard is Scheduled to Start Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Clayton Richard (knee) is expected to draw the start versus the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Richard has been out all season due to issues with his right knee. The veteran lefty could have some decent DFS appeal against the White Sox, but won't have much fantasy value after that.
