Cody Poteet Begins Light Throwing, Nearing Bullpen Sessions

New York Yankees pitcher Cody Poteet (triceps) has begun lightly throwing from the mound and is nearing his first bullpen session. Poteet hit the 15-day injured list on June 18 with a right triceps strain and was shut down from throwing through the rest of June before being re-evaluated. The 29-year-old made four starts this season and performed well with a 2.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 7:13 BB:K ratio across 21 innings. He limited hard contact quite well with a 6.6% barrel rate. The UCLA product will likely shift to a bullpen role once he is cleared to return but may be called upon during the stretch run to make a handful of spot starts. He might have streaming appeal but should be left on all waiver wires for the time being.

Cody Poteet To Start On Saturday

New York Yankees right-hander Cody Poteet (finger) will make the start on Saturday against the San Francisco Giants after the Yankees placed right-hander Clarke Schmidt (lat) on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. Poteet had been dealing with a blister on his finger at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but manager Aaron Boone said he's good to go for this weekend. The 29-year-old had a quality start and a win in his lone start in the big leagues for the Yankees this year, allowing one earned run while walking none and striking out four in six innings against the Cleveland Guardians on April 13. At Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he's gone 3-0 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 38:11 K:BB in 33 1/3 innings over seven starts. Poteet should be sufficiently stretched out and will only be worth a look as a fantasy streamer in much deeper leagues.

Yankees Sign Cody Poteet

The New York Yankees agreed to an undisclosed major-league deal with free-agent right-hander Cody Poteet on Thursday. Poteet pitched for the Miami Marlins in 2021-22 and had a 4.45 ERA in 19 appearances (nine starts). He had Tommy John surgery in August of 2022, signed with the Kansas City Royals on a minor-league deal and only pitched in one game in the minors in late September of 2023. The 29-year-old will become depth for the Yankees' starting rotation and bullpen heading into spring training in 2024. In his 19 appearances for the Fish, Poteet also posted a 1.28 WHIP, 27 walks and 53 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings pitched. Poteet won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar for spring drafts.

Cody Poteet Moved To The 60-Day IL

Miami Marlins pitcher Cody Poteet (elbow) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old has had multiple stints on the IL this season while dealing with elbow inflammation. Poteet has a 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 21:11 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (two starts) on the year.

Cody Poteet Begins Rehab Assignment

Miami Marlins right-hander Cody Poteet (elbow) started a minor league rehab assignment on Monday with Single-A Jupiter and threw two innings. Poteet last started for the Marlins on May 25 against the Tampa Bay Rays and reported soreness in his elbow to the medical staff. The 27-year-old could be back with the Marlins later this week, barring any setbacks. Before his injury, he had a nice 2.42 ERA and 1.04 WHIP while striking out 20 and walking 11 in 26 innings in 11 appearances (two starts). Poteet will give the Marlins more bullpen depth when he returns, but he's not really on the fantasy radar coming out of the bullpen.

Cody Poteet Heading To The Injured List

Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Cody Poteet (knee) is on his way back to the injured list due to a knee sprain. The move will be made retroactive to June 25, the last time Poteet appeared in a game. The rookie got off to an impressive start this season, but has struggled of late, pitching to a 4.99 ERA overall with a 5.05 xERA to confirm it. The hope is that his struggles have been due to his knee issues and that he will come back strong once he's recovered. A corresponding move has not been made yet, but Poteet's next start was scheduled for Wednesday.

Cody Poteet Struggles In A Short Start On Thursday

Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Cody Poteet struggled in his start on Thursday against the Washington Nationals. Poteet only made it through three innings, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks while striking out six. He allowed two home runs to Kyle Schwarber in his first two at bats. Poteet just didn't have it in this one, throwing 77 pitches, 45 for strikes. The loss drops his record to 2-3 and lifts his ERA to 4.99. He's had a couple of rough starts in a row and may be better left on the bench in most fantasy leagues until he gets back on the right track.

Cody Poteet Doesn't Finish The Fourth Inning On Friday

Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Cody Poteet was decent in a short start in Friday's 10-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Poteet had just come off the injured list due to a knee injury and hadn't had a chance to make any rehab starts, so he was never expected to go deep into this game no matter what a clueless Don Mattingly stated prior to the first pitch. Poteet ended up pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five. Both runs came on two solo home runs off the bat of Joc Pederson, but Poteet made pretty much everyone else in the Cubs lineup look silly. While Poteet didn't have much of a minor league career, he certainly seems to have figured something out over the past two years and looks like he could be a legitimate back end starter in a big league rotation for a long time.

Cody Poteet Activated And Starting On Friday

Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Cody Poteet (knee) was activated from the injured list and will start Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Poteet was forced to leave his previous start with a knee injury, but made it through the rehab process without a hitch, throwing a few bullpen sessions but not even making a rehab start. Poteet started five games, posting a 3.75 ERA (3.28 xERA) in 24 innings. He proved to be a worthwhile streaming option but may be limited in how deep he can go into this game. He should be back on the streaming radar next week assuming he makes it out of Friday's game without reinjuring his knee.

Cody Poteet Removed Due To Injury

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Cody Poteet (undisclosed) was removed during the third inning of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He threw a couple warmup pitches, but was pulled out in the middle of the third inning. Poteet allowed four walks and three earned runs before exiting the game. The injury is uncertain at the moment, but the team should give an update after the contest ends. Fantasy managers should hold onto Poteet, assuming it's a minor issue.
