Denyi Reyes Making Spot Start In Game 1 Of Doubleheader
The New York Mets have called up right-hander Denyi Reyes from the minors in order to make a spot start in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves. This will be only Reyes' second start for the Mets this year and only his third major-league start. In his only other start this year, Reyes allowed a season-high five earned runs on five hits (two home runs) while walking one and striking out one in just one innings against these same Braves back on May 1. Hopefully the 26-year-old can fare better than that this time around, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a streaming option on Saturday's slate.
The New York Mets signed right-hander Denyi Reyes to a minor-league deal this week. The deal includes a non-roster invite to spring training next year. The 26-year-old Dominican spent the 2022 season in the Baltimore Orioles organization, going 1-7 with a rough 6.60 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, one save, 61 strikeouts and nine walks in 60 innings pitched over 17 appearances (12 starts) for Single-A Delmarva, High-A Aberdeen and Triple-A Norfolk. Reyes also ended up making his major-league debut for the Orioles last season, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three in 7 2/3 frames over three outings (one start).
