Brad Hand, Carlos Santana, Domingo Santana Become Free Agents

The Cleveland Indians declined 2021 options on relief pitcher Brad Hand ($10 million), first baseman Carlos Santana ($17.5 million) and outfielder Domingo Santana ($5 million) on Friday, making them free agents. Hand will receive a $500,000 buyout and the Santanas will each receive $250,000. The 30-year-old Hand led baseball with 16 saves this year, but he wasn't claimed by a team on outright waivers. He had 58 saves and a 2.78 ERA in 111 games for the Tribe the last two-plus years. Carlos Santana hit a career-low .199 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 60 games, but it's possible he re-signs at a lesser contract.

Oscar Mercado Gets Recalled Monday, Domingo Santana DFA'd

The Cleveland Indians outfield shuffle continued Monday with Oscar Mercado being recalled from the clubs alternate training site while Domingo Santana was designated for assignment. Mercados open to the 2020 campaign has been woeful with a -23 OPS+ in his first 17 games, which earned him his demotion. Santana slashed .157/.298/.286 during his stint with Cleveland, but the acquisition of Josh Naylor forced a decision to be made. Having delivered a 108 OPS+ as recently as last season, Santana is likely to land with another team.

Domingo Santana Drives In Three Runs Saturday

Cleveland Indians outfielder Domingo Santana went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Saturday against the Tigers. Santana had only one hit, but made it count by delivering a three-RBI double in the sixth inning. That put Cleveland up 3-1, and was all the run support that they needed for the victory. Santana now has hits in three of his last four contests, driving in seven runs in that span. Overall, Santana is hitting .177/.320/.323 to go along with 12 RBI and six runs scored across 75 plate appearances. He hasn't been productive for fantasy purposes but is a streaky hitter and is one to monitor in deeper-mixed leagues.

Domingo Santana Agrees To One-Year Deal With Indians

Outfielder Domingo Santana and the Cleveland Indians have come to terms on a one-year deal, pending that the 27-year-old passes a physical, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Santana had a .253 batting average last season for the Seattle Mariners. He hit 21 home runs and drove in 69 runs in 121 games played. Cleveland is without top-level talent in the outfield, which means Santana has a legitimate chance at a sizeable role for the Indians in 2020. He doesn't come without weaknesses, however. He had the highest strikeout percentage in the major leagues (32.3%) and his defense is lacking. For fantasy purposes, he's unlikely to be drafted in most mixed leagues but could potentially be a waiver wire pickup if he solidifies consistent playing time. He is a streaky hitter who has marginal value unless he's hot.

Indians Close To Deal With Domingo Santana

The Cleveland Indians are close to signing outfielder Domingo Santana to a one-year deal worth just over $1 million on Thursday night. Santana hit .253 (174-for-507) with 21 home runs and 69 RBI for the Mariners in 2019, striking out 164 times in 121 games. He played 59 games in left field last season and 42 in right field while missing time in the second half with a sore right elbow. If the deal goes through, Santana will join a crowded outfield picture that also includes Greg Allen, Jake Bauers, Delino DeShields, Jordan Luplow, Oscar Mercado, Tyler Naquin, Franmil Reyes and Bradley Zimmer. That's a lot of bodies. Santana strikes out way too much and doesn't have much of a glove, so he'd probably be looking at a platoon role in a corner outfield spot with the Tribe.

Mariners Non-Tender Domingo Santana, Tim Beckham

The Seattle Mariners non-tendered outfielder Domingo Santana and shortstop Tim Beckham on Monday, making them both free agents. Santana had a nice .850 OPS but was projected to make $4.4 million in arbitration, and he slashed a putrid .128/.234/.234 with a 44 percent strikeout rate in the second half. He's also a liability on defense, but he can produce for fantasy owners given his power potential if he lands in the right situation. Beckham was projected to make $3 million in arbitration but will also miss the beginning of the 2020 while he completes an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs.

Domingo Santana Expected to Be Activated on Tuesday

Seattle Mariners outfielder Domingo Santana (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Santana has been sidelined since August 20 due to inflammation in his right elbow. It sounds like the Mariners plan to ease him back into action. He'll come off the bench a few times and serve as the designated hitter during some game next week. It appears Santana isn't going to have much fantasy value down the stretch of the season.

Domingo Santana Placed on Injured List

Seattle Mariners outfielder Domingo Santana(elbow) has been placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation, according to The Athletics' Corey Brock. Santana has been dealing with a sore elbow for some time, as he is hitting .131 with a .490 OPS since the All-Star break. In a corresponding move, the Mariners have called up eighth-ranked prospect Jake Fraley, who is expected to make his Major League debut sometime this week. The 24-year-old outfielder has been hitting .298 with 19 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Pick him up in deep mixed and AL-only leagues immediately, as he should play regularly down the stretch for this rebuilding club.

Domingo Santana Sitting Thursday

Seattle Mariners outfielder Domingo Santana is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Detroit Tigers. This looks like a routine day of rest for Santana, who has struggled mightily since straining his right elbow on July 23. Santana has managed a measly .133 batting average since then, and one has to wonder if the injury is affecting his swing. Daniel Vogelbach will man the designated hitter spot and bat sixth while Austin Nola mans first and bats fifth against right-hander Spencer Turnbull. Vogelbach could make for a very good DFS play, as he has hit 22 of his 27 home runs against right-handed pitching this season and Turnbull generally struggles away from home.

Domingo Santana Slugs 20th Homer

Seattle Mariners outfielder Domingo Santana launched his 20th homer of the year Sunday in the teams 3-2 win over the Tigers. In his first game back from an ailing elbow, Santana showed no signs of rust going 2-for-4, upping his average to .273 on the season. The 26-year-olds name has been thrown into trade discussions recently, but its hard to envision the Ms to send him packing at a prime age. Santana has bounced back tremendously after a disappointing 2018 campaign, and does have a 30-homer season under his belt so its no fluke hes hitting well this season. Expect the results to continue down the stretch run.
