Domingo Tapia Recalled, Pedro Avila Sent To Triple-A Monday
The San Diego Padres made some moves in the bullpen on Monday, sending right-hander Pedro Avila to Triple-A El Paso and recalling right-hander Domingo Tapia. Avila will report to Triple-A after throwing three scoreless innings and striking out four for the Padres on Sunday. Tapia will take over in a middle relief role in the San Diego bullpen. He has posted a 2.60 ERA across 14 appearances in 2023.
San Diego Padres reliever Domingo Tapia earned a multi-inning save Monday, his first of the season, when his team defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-3. He pitched the last two innings of the game, striking out a pair and allowing no baserunners. Over 10.1 innings of work, Tapia owns a 3.48 ERA, 24.4% strikeout rate, 13.3% walk rate, 1.35 WHIP, and one hold. The Padres have one of the most dominant closers in baseball in Josh Hader, so fantasy managers shouldn't roster the right-hander looking for saves. Tapia's value is limited in hold leagues as well, with the club's abundance of setup men, so he can be left on the waiver wire in almost all formats.
