Teoscar Hernandez Remains Out On Monday

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Hernandez has been sidelined since exiting early during Friday's contest due to an ankle injury. The X-rays came back negative, so the team is calling it a left ankle contusion. The hope is that Hernandez can return within the next day or two. In the meantime, Chris Taylor will play left field and bat ninth against right-hander Kyle Hendricks on Monday. Taylor has been struggling this season and is hitting under .200 currently, so there should be better streaming options available. UPDATE: Manager Dave Roberts said the team is hopeful of having Hernandez back in the lineup on Tuesday, but they'll see how he feels then.

Carlos Santana Returning On Monday

Minnesota Twins first baseman Carlos Santana (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The veteran switch-hitter sat out of Sunday's game due to a minor illness. Santana will cover first base and bat leadoff against left-hander Reid Detmers on Monday. The Twins have been having Santana bat leadoff against lefty starters lately, so we'll see if that ends up being a long term solution. The 38-year-old hasn't been great with the bat, but his 20 home runs gives him some fantasy value.

Anthony Volpe Heads To The Bench

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals. This appears to be a routine rest day for Volpe who has started in three straight games. The 23-year-old is in a bit of a slump as he's 2-for-15 over his last four games. In his place, Oswaldo Cabrera will cover shortstop and bat eighth versus right-hander Brady Singer. Cabrera has been quiet with the bat lately and won't be an ideal streaming option against a tough pitcher on Monday. Fantasy managers should expect Volpe to be back in the lineup after this game.

TJ Friedl Returns Against Atlanta

Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl is back in center field and is batting cleanup on Monday against the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Charlie Morton at Truist Park for the series opener. Friedl left Saturday's game early against the New York Mets after he was experiencing shortness of breath. He sat out of the series finale on Sunday but is apparently feeling much better to begin a new week. Friedl has only faced Morton one time in his career and did not record a hit. The 29-year-old has only played in 68 games with the Reds in his fourth year in the big leagues in 2024 due to various ailments. In that short time, he's provided 11 home runs, 46 RBI and eight stolen bases while slashing .218/.300/.385 with a career-worst .685 OPS. Friedl has looked better in seven games in September, going 6-for-23 (.261) with a homer, double, six RBI and a steal.

Travis d'Arnaud Placed On Paternity List

The Atlanta Braves placed catcher Travis d'Arnaud on the paternity list on Monday and recalled catcher Chadwick Tromp from the minors in a corresponding move. Regular catcher Sean Murphy is behind the plate on Monday for right-hander Charlie Morton and is hitting fifth against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Nick Martinez. d'Arnaud will most likely miss the next three games against the Reds while welcoming a new addition to his family, but he should be back this weekend for a crucial weekend series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 35-year-old veteran continues to share playing time with Murphy and has hit .245 (67-for-274) with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 304 plate appearances over his 90 games. Tromp will likely start one of the three games against Cincy with d'Arnaud not around.

Carlos Correa "Very Encouraged" With How He's Feeling

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (foot) is "very encouraged" after sprinting three of the last four days. Correa started a new treatment five days ago. He's not getting ahead of himself right now, but it's also the best he's felt in a long time as he tries to recover from plantar fasciitis in his right foot. It's good news for the 29-year-old, but there is very little time left for him to do anything for fantasy managers still in the mix for a title. Given all the time that Correa has missed (he's been out since July), it's likely he'll need some kind of a rehab assignment, although the minor-league will also be over soon. Until Correa is able to return, infield prospect Brooks Lee should continue to see regular playing time at the 6 in Minnesota. Foot issues have become a problem for Correa, but he was also hitting an impressive .308/.377/.520 with an .896 OPS, 13 homers and 47 RBI this year before his injury.

Kumar Rocker To Be Called Up To Debut On Thursday

The Texas Rangers are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Kumar Rocker from Triple-A Round Rock later this week, and he'll make his major-league debut on Thursday at T-Mobile Park against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. Rocker, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has a 1.96 ERA over 10 games between the Arizona Complex League, Double-A Frisco and Round Rock this year after returning from Tommy John surgery. It's nice to see the 24-year-old former Vanderbilt product making his MLB debut the same season he returned from elbow reconstruction, but fantasy managers looking for streaming options should temper their expectations despite the tempting matchup in Seattle against the M's. The Rangers reportedly want to keep Rocker to around 50 total innings for this season, and he's already thrown 29 2/3 frames in the minors.

Cedric Mullins Hitting Second Against Red Sox

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins is starting in center field and is batting out of the two-hole on Monday at Fenway Park against the division-rival Boston Red Sox and right-hander Brayan Bello. With Mullins starting to swing the bat well in September, they are moving him up to his highest lineup spot of the year on Monday. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has also batted .444 with a .989 OPS in nine career at-bats against Bello. So far in September, Mullins has gone 10-for-24 (.417) with two homers, a double, six RBI, one stolen base and five runs scored in seven games played. He's also been much better against righties this year, batting .248 (74-for-298) with 14 of his 15 home runs against righties. While Mullins is hot, ride him in season-long fantasy leagues and in DFS on Monday against Bello.

DJ LeMahieu Heads To 10-Day Injured List

The New York Yankees placed infielder DJ LeMahieu (hip) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 6) on Monday with a right-hip impingement and recalled outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. It was time for the Yankees to make the move since LeMahieu hadn't played for the team since last Tuesday. The 36-year-old veteran had picked up hits in each of his previous five games before getting hurt, but he's still hitting just .204/.269/.259 with a .527 OPS, two home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in only 201 at-bats on the year for the Yanks. LeMahieu hasn't been very healthy in 2024 and hasn't delivered when he's been on the field. When he returns from the IL, he'll be a bench player for the Yankees to close out the year and in the postseason with Jazz Chisholm Jr. entrenched at third base.

Yankees Recall Jasson Dominguez From Triple-A

The New York Yankees recalled outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday and also placed infielder DJ LeMahieu (hip) on the 10-day injured list with a right-hip impingement. The Yankees also reinstated infielder Jon Berti (calf) from the 60-day IL and designated left-hander Anthony Misiewicz for assignment. Dominguez, the club's top prospect, is starting in center field on Monday and is batting sixth against Kansas City Royals right-hander Brady Singer in the Bronx. The Yankees recently said that the 21-year-old wouldn't come back to the big leagues unless he was going to play regularly, so the Martian should play every day down the stretch for the Bombers. Injuries have been the story of his 2024 season after he recovered from Tommy John surgery, but now that Dominguez is in majors to stay, he should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Jonathan India Sitting Out On Monday

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (elbow) is out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. With India riding pine to start, Santiago Espinal will take over second-base duties and will hit sixth against Braves right-hander Charlie Morton. India was forced to leave Sunday's game early in the series finale against the New York Mets with discomfort in his left elbow and will now miss the series opener in Atlanta. Until we know more, the 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day, but it doesn't appear to be an injury that would keep him out long-term. Espinal has never faced Morton in his career. He's been seeing more playing time of late due to injuries around Cincy's infield, and although Espinal doesn't have a ton of power or speed, he's gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and five RBI in seven games in September.

Heston Kjerstad Starts Rehab Assignment

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad (concussion) begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday with High-A Aberdeen and has gone 2-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in his first two games. On Sunday, Kjerstad went 2-for-2 with a run and a walk before being replaced in right field. The 25-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder served as the designated hitter in his first rehab appearance on Saturday. Kjerstad has been away from the Orioles since suffering a concussion in late July. It's a good sign that he's now playing in games again, but it's unknown how long he'll be on a rehab assignment before being an option to rejoin Baltimore's big-league roster as outfield depth to close out the 2024 regular season. There's a very realistic chance that Kjerstad is sent to Triple-A Norfolk, instead of the majors, once he's finished with his rehab assignment.

Trevor Williams To Make Rehab Start On Tuesday

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (elbow) has faced live hitters twice in the last week-plus and is now scheduled to throw four innings or build up to 65 to 70 pitches in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday in what will be his first competitive game since May 30. Williams has been out since late May with a flexor strain in his elbow. Barring a setback during what is expected to be a brief rehab assignment, Williams could rejoin the big-league rotation to make perhaps a couple of starts at the end of September. Manager Dave Martinez has said Williams probably needs to get up to 80 pitches before he comes off the 60-day injured list, so he'll need more than one rehab start. The 32-year-old veteran had bounced back from a rough 2023 to go 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 47 K's in 56 2/3 frames over 11 starts earlier this year before getting hurt.

Kumar Rocker Could Make MLB Debut This Year

Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young said on Sunday that the team isn't ruling out the possibility of right-handed pitching prospect Kumar Rocker making his major-league debut this year. Rocker the club's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, made his return from Tommy John surgery this year and has been looking great down on the farm ever since. In three stops between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, he has posted a shiny 1.96 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP and a 55:5 K:BB in 36 2/3 innings over 10 appearances (nine starts). Max Scherzer (shoulder) and Jacob deGrom (elbow) are also working their way back from injuries and plan on pitching for the Rangers before the season is over, though, so it remains to be seen if Texas will have a spot for Rocker for an MLB debut of one or two starts down the stretch.

Xander Bogaerts Could Move Back To Shortstop

San Diego Padres second baseman Xander Bogaerts, who moved to second base this year, could potentially be headed back to his former position with Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) not particularly close to coming off the 10-day injured list. Rookie Mason McCoy has taken over at the 6 in Kim's absence, but the Padres devised that plan as a temporary solution when Kim's return was expected to come sooner. McCoy is solid defensively, but he's hitting just .204 with a .523 OPS. Bogaerts has settled in nicely at the keystone, but moving him back to short would allow Jake Cronenworth to slide from first to second and Luis Arraez from DH to first, freeing up the DH spot for a potential platoon between David Peralta and Donovan Solano. Solano could also play some first base. When Solano pinch hit for McCoy on Sunday, the Padres shifted Bogaerts to short and Cronenworth to second, perhaps a sign of things to come.

Ha-Seong Kim Not Close To Returning

San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said on Sunday that shortstop Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) is "not as close as we'd like" to making his return from right-shoulder inflammation. The news could prompt the club to move Xander Bogaerts, who made the move from shortstop to second base this year, back to his former position. Kim hurt his shoulder three weeks ago diving back into first base, and the team was initially optimistic he'd return after the minimum 10-day stint on the injured list. But as Kim has attempted to ramp up his throwing, he has continued to feel discomfort. He took ground balls at short and attempted to ramp up his throws across the diamond on Saturday, but he's yet to be able to do so at 100% effort. At this point, the Padres are probably just hoping the 28-year-old will be available to them if they secure a spot in the playoffs.

Jared Shuster Serving As Opener On Monday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jared Shuster will serve as the team's opener for Monday's matchup against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field. Shuster could very well end up going multiple innings for the Pale Hose in this one, but he won't be a recommended fantasy streamer against the division-leading Guardians. The 26-year-old has started just two of his 34 appearances for the team in 2024, with his last "start" coming back on July 14 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when he went 1 2/3 shutout innings with a walk and two strikeouts. Shuster hasn't allowed an earned run in his last three relief appearances over six innings while walking one and striking out six, but there just isn't any real fantasy upside here in a bad matchup. Avoid Shuster on Monday.

Paul Blackburn Won't Start Monday, Tylor Megill To Get The Nod

New York Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn (hand), who was originally scheduled to come off the 15-day injured list to make the start on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, will no longer start, according to the team. Instead, right-hander Tylor Megill is the team's new probable starter. It's unclear if Blackburn has had a setback with his hand, but if he hasn't, the 30-year-old veteran could just be pushed back a day as a precaution. Blackburn suffered a right-hand bruise several weeks ago on a comebacker but is close to rejoining the Mets' starting rotation. Since coming over from the Oakland Athletics in a trade, Blackburn has been an unreliable fantasy streamer, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 24 1/3 innings over his five starts. He'll be a shaky deep-league streamer if he rejoins the rotation this week in Toronto.

Luis Castillo Dealing With Hamstring Strain

Seattle Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo (hamstring) was removed from his start early on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals due to a left-hamstring strain. Before leaving, Castillo allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three in three innings of work at Busch Stadium. He will undergo an MRI exam on his hamstring on Monday when the team arrives back in Seattle, and at the very least, his next start is in jeopardy. If the 31-year-old's hamstring injury is serious enough, Castillo may not make it back for the rest of the regular season. Losing Castillo for the rest of the way would be a serious blow to Seattle's chances of catching the division-rival Astros for the American League West division lead. Castillo has gone 11-12 this year with a 3.64 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and 175 strikeouts in 175 1/3 innings of work over his 30 starts for the M's.

Jared Jones Dominates Nats On Sunday

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones was on his game Sunday, allowing two runs over seven frames in a 7-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Jones allowed four hits and walked none while striking out nine in what was his best start since coming back from the IL in late August. The 23-year-old rookie looks to be a stud in the future and should be drafted fairly highly next year given his sky-high upside. Jones should be started in most leagues next week with a middle-of-the-road matchup on tap against the Kansas City Royals.
