The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent right-hander Heath Fillmyer on Wednesday, according to sources. The 26-year-old last pitched for the Kansas City Royals in 2019 and will give the Snakes some pitching depth as they enter the 2021 regular season. Fillmyer allowed 20 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings over 12 outings (three starts) for the Royals in 2019 for a brutal 8.06 ERA and 1.79 WHIP while also striking out 15 and walking 12. He was a lot better in his first major league season in 2018 for KC, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 57 strikeouts and 32 walks in 82 1/3 innings over 17 outings (13 starts). With just a 6.2 K/9 in 104 2/3 major league innings, the righty will need to lower his free passes if he hopes to find any success.
Kansas City Royals pitcher Heath Fillmyer will start on Monday against the Chicago White Sox. Fillmyer was a spot starter against the Mariners on April 10 and allowed six hits and five earned runs in just three innings while striking out only two. He'll once again be a poor streaming option for fantasy owners on Monday, even in the deepest of leagues.
Confirming a previous post, Kansas City Royals pitcher Heath Fillmyer will start against the Mariners on Wednesday. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 4.26 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and mediocre 6.2 strikeouts per nine innings in his 82 1/3 innings in the big leagues, which all came last season. He's also unlikely to go very long in this outing against a red-hot Mariners lineup that has now homered in 13 straight games, one shy of a record to start the season. You'd be a little crazy in the head to use Fillmyer as a streamer on Wednesday in any format.
The Kansas City Royals recalled pitcher Heath Fillmyer from the minors on Tuesday, and he's likely to make the start on Wednesday against the Mariners at home. The Royals also recalled Richard Lovelady from the minors on Tuesday. Fillmyer, 24, had a 4.26 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and weak 6.2 K/9 in 17 games (13 starts) over 82 1/3 innings in his rookie season in 2018. Against the hot-hitting Mariners, he'll be one to avoid for streaming purposes on Wednesday.
The Kansas City Royals officially optioned pitcher Heath Fillmyer to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. Fillmyer is/was considered to be in the running for the fifth starting role in the rotation, but the team has three scheduled off days in the first eight days of the season, so they're expected to kind of drag their feet about that role for the first two weeks this year. For now, Fillmyer is out, but he'll likely be back soon enough since KC's rotation looks like it will have more than its fair share of struggles. Fillmyer worked as a spot starter for the Royals last season, and he was mediocre at best. He should only be worth watching in AL-only leagues.
Jake Junis Heading To 10-Day DL; Heath Fillmyer Starting Sunday
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis (back) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower back inflammation and will not make his start Sunday against the Red Sox. The move is retroactive to July 3, so Junis will be eligible to return July 13. Heath Fillmyer will make the spot start and pitcher Glenn Sparkman has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Junis should be held onto in dynasty leagues and leagues deeper than 12 teams. On the other side, Fillmyer has logged just nine career innings at the Major League level, so fantasy owners should not trust him against a very tough Red Sox matchup.
The Kansas City Royals called up Triple-A starting pitcher Heath Fillmyer to take over Kelvin Herrera's roster spot on Tuesday. Though Fillmyer was a starter in the minors, he'll be relegated to the bullpen in the bigs. He also carried a 5.75 ERA in Triple-A during his 13 starts there, so owners should hold off on adding him unless he proves he can actually perform at the big league level.
