Hector Sanchez Sidelined For Two Weeks

San Francisco Giants catcher Hector Sanchez (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Thursday and will be sidelined two weeks with a hamstring injury. It was never a sure thing that Sanchez would make the Opening Day roster, as the club has Buster Posey with catcher Nick Hundley as the primary backup. Sanchez can be avoided in 2018.

Hector Sanchez Removed from Game as Precaution

San Diego catcher Hector Sanchez left Saturday's game early to go through the concussion protocol after taking a foul ball off the top of his helmet. Sanchez didn't show obvious symptoms, but was removed because of his significant history of head injuries. Both Sanchez and manager Andy Green stated that he has suffered a totla of seven concussions, the last one occurring in April. It's unclear whether he will go on the seven-day disabled list, but he is likely to miss a game or two at the minimum. Sanchez has been relegated to backup duties again with Austin Hedges off the DL, so he isn't particularly fantasy relevant at this time. He is batting .241 with seven home runs and 18 RBI in 83 at-bats this season.

Hector Sanchez To Rest Wednesday

San Diego Padres catcher Hector Sanchez will have Wednesday off. The catcher has been on fire recently hitting .333 with five home runs over his last 48 at-bats. Sanchez got an increase in playing time when Austin Hedges (concussion) landed on the 7-day disabled list. Hedges was struggling prior to his injury so it will be interesting to see what manager Andy Green does when he comes back. If Sanchez continues to rake it will be hard to bench him. He is worth a look at catcher in NL-Only leagues and deeper mixed leagues. Luis Torrens will start behind the plate and bat eighth tonight.

Hector Sanchez Bops Another Pinch-Hit Homer

San Diego catcher Hector Sanchez came through with a ninth-inning pinch-hit home run on Friday, albeit in a meaningless situation. With the Padres down 10-2, Sanchez took Sergio Romo deep. Sanchez is mainly known for his defense, but as a third catcher he has become a pinch-hitting specialist. This marked his third homer as a substitute and second in the past week. It's doubtful Sanchez will get regular playing time unless Austin Hedges happens to hit the disabled list, but he's shown some power upside that would show promise for two-catcher leagues if the occasion arose.
