Ian Kinsler To Rejoin Rangers As Special Assistant To GM
The Texas Rangers announced Monday that former second baseman Ian Kinsler will rejoin the organization as a special assistant to general manager Chris Young. As part of his new role with the Rangers, Kinsler will be involved in player development at the Minor League level. He will first serve his duties as manager of Team Israel in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Kinsler spent the first eight seasons of his 14-season career with the Rangers and was inducted into the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame in August 2022. The Rangers made a bunch of additions this offseason, so Kinsler will be returning to a team that should have a number of fantasy-relevant players.
14-year veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler (neck) announced his retirement from baseball on Friday. The 37-year-old said the herniated cervical disc that ended his 2019 season with the Padres in August played a factor in his decision. He'll end his career just one hit shy of 2,000, with 257 home runs, 909 RBI and 243 stolen bases in stints with the Tigers, Rangers, Red Sox, Padres and Angels. Kinsler will remain with San Diego as an adviser to baseball operations. The four-time All-Star spent eight seasons with the Rangers before a 2013 trade to Detroit. He won a World Series in 2018 with the Red Sox. In his prime, he was one of the best power/speed second baseman in the game.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler (neck) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 13. Kinsler is dealing with a herniated disc in his neck, so his season could very well be over. The Padres would likely rather use their young players anyway over a struggling veteran. Ty France will play second base and bat seventh versus righty Vince Velasquez on Friday. France didn't do much in his first taste of the majors earlier this year, but he was lighting it up offensively at Triple-A El Paso and is worth a look in deep mixed and NL-only leagues now that he's likely to be playing every day with both Kinsler and Fernando Tatis Jr. (back) expected to miss the rest of the season.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Washington Nationals. Kinsler will get a routine day off here, but should be back in the lineup this weekend. Greg Garcia will cover second base and bat ninth versus righty Erick Fedde. Garcia doesn't have enough upside to use in DFS contests or fantasy leagues.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Miami Marlins. The dinger was the veterans seventh of the season to go along with 31 runs-plus-RBI. Since creating controversy on May 16 by cursing out the Friars home crowd, Kinsler has lifted his OPS from .574 to .622 with four extra-base hits (two homers) over that stretch. Unfortunately, he still grades as one of the worst players in baseball so far in 2019. Without a sustainable surge in production, Kinsler may be the odd man in San Diego once shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (hamstring) returns and isnt fantasy-relevant.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler had one of the worst months of his career in April, hitting .133/.209/.241. However, he is 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles and two home runs so far in May and has emerged in the leadoff spot with Fernando Tatis Jr. (hamstring) on the shelf. He's seen an uptick in exit velocity and a decrease in strikeouts the last couple of weeks. The veteran is still batting only .177 on the season and will need to continue to improve for him to keep his starting job over Greg Garcia and prospect Luis Urias. He should only be used in NL-only leagues despite the fact that he's looked better of late.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler went 3-for-6 with a homer and two doubles in Thursdays blowout win against the Atlanta Braves. Padres manager Andy Greens questionable persistence to continue starting Kinsler and batting him leadoff finally paid off as he scored three times and drove in two, raising his OPS from .479 to .566 in the process. Despite his best game of the season, Kinslers numbers and expected stats have been remarkably poor, making him a non-factor in fantasy. The primary loser of Kinslers big game is infield prospectLuis Urias, who will probably have to wait a bit longer in Triple-A despite mashing .356/.433/.847 with seven homers in the minors this season.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler is the team's leadoff hitter for Thursday's 12:10 PM game against the Atlanta Braves and starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz. Kinsler's .151/.223/.256 slash line is quite consistent with his .177 expected batting average (xBA) and .239 expected slugging (xSLG) on Statcast. He can be easily ignored in DFS, even with the lineup spot and small early slate.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler sat out on Sunday after seven straight starts at the keystone, and he went hitless with a strikeout in three plate appearances on Monday to drop his season slash line to .134/.211/.244 with two homers, two RBI and 16 strikeouts on the year. Manager Andy Green said Kinsler is seeing regular playing time in an effort "to get him going." However, a source familiar with the team's discussions about their second base crisis postulated that Kinsler's time as the regular (and possibly on the roster) could be coming down to a matter of days barring an offensive resurgence. Even though Ty France has hit well since coming up, he's been a corner infielder throughout the minors and is expected to spell Eric Hosmer at first base. If Kinsler continues to struggle, we could see Luis Urias back in the big leagues very soon. Kinsler isn't even a good option in NL-only leagues at this point.
San Diego Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. It appears this is just a normal off day for the veteran slugger. Greg Garcia will cover second base and bat second versus righty Jeremy Hellickson. Garcia won't have much upside in DFS contests despite batting second.
