Tigers Recall Victor Reyes, Option JaCoby Jones

The Detroit Tigers have recalled outfielder Victor Reyes from Triple-A. Reyes began the year with the team, but was demoted on May 7. After the demotion, he went on a tear at Triple-A slashing .419/.490/.581 over 11 games. The 26-year-old Reyes has shown flashes of potential in the Majors, but he struggled before his demotion this year, slashing .143/.169/.238 with just one home run over 21 games. The team optioned fellow outfielder JaCoby Jones in a corresponding move. Jones has a slash line of .170/.210/.250 over 36 games this year.

JaCoby Jones Launches First Home Run Of 2021

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones has been ice cold to start the 2021 season, but he had a strong day at the plate in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jones went 2-for-4 in the game and hit a solo home run, his first home run of the year. The home run also marked Jones' first extra-base hit and first RBI since Opening Day, despite seeing a good amount of action in the early going this year. Jones is slashing .176/.200/.294 through 12 games on the year, a major decrease from last year's solid slash line of .268/.333/.515. The Tigers have a bit more outfield depth this year than they did last year. Jones is going to struggle to find consistent playing time, especially while he's slumping at the plate.

JaCoby Jones Struggling Through Spring Action

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones has had a rough spring training so far. Over 42 at-bats, he's slashing .119/.213/.286 with two home runs and 14 strikeouts. Jones figures to open the year as the Tigers' starting center fielder, but he has more competition for playing time this year than he did last year. The Tigers brought in Robbie Grossman and Nomar Mazara to provide outfield depth. The team also added Rule 5 draft pick Akil Baddoo, who has been mashing through the spring, and Victor Reyes figures to play a significant role as well. Jones slashed .268/.333/.515 with five home runs, 14 RBI and 19 runs over 30 games in 2020. If he can hold a starting role, he'll have value in AL-only leagues and deep leagues, but he's not the most intriguing sleeper outfielder to target late in drafts.

JaCoby Jones Fractures Left Hand, Done For 2020

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones will miss the remainder of the 2020 season due to a left hand fracture that he sustained Tuesday. Outfield prospect Derek Hill has been recalled to take Jones place on the active roster and will likely see some run in center field alongside Victor Reyes without Jones in the mix. It was a breakout offensive campaign before the injury for Jones, who delivered an .849 OPS and 126 OPS+ through 30 games this year despite spending most of his time at the bottom of the order. Injuries have stunted Jones fantasy growth over the years, something owners will want to keep in mind ahead of 21, which is when hell next be eligible to return to the field.

JaCoby Jones Leading Off For First Time On Monday

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones has been a huge surprise so far this year. He's slashing .315/.383/.722 with five home runs and 13 RBI on the year. However, he's been doing all his damage from the bottom of the Tigers lineup, hitting ninth in just about every one of his starts. On Monday, he'll get his first opportunity as a leadoff hitter as the team faces Gio Gonzalez and the Chicago White Sox. It's hard to imagine Jones keeping up his torrid pace as he has a career OPS of just .671, but if he can stick at or near the top of the lineup, he'd certainly be more attractive for fantasy owners.

JaCoby Jones Sitting Out On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. It is just a regular rest day for the 28-year-old. Jones has been one of the biggest fantasy surprises of the early season, slashing .311/.380/.733 with five home runs and 12 RBI through 14 games. In his absence, Harold Castro will start in center field and bat seventh. Castro is a fantasy afterthought for Wednesday's slate.

JaCoby Jones Leaves Game With Abdominal Tightness

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones (abdominal tightness) left Sunday's game after tweaking his core on a swing. Jones was pushing to stay in the game but manager Ron Gardenhire wasn't having it, replacing the 28-year-old with Harold Castro in the bottom of the third inning. Jones has been the hottest hitter in a suddenly resurgent Tigers' lineup, slashing a ridiculous .342/.405/.763 with eight extra base hits and 10 RBI. Detroit is currently listing him as day-to-day.

JaCoby Jones Batting Ninth Friday

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones is playing center field and batting ninth for the team's contest versus Reds right-hander Luis Castillo on Friday. Jones has been the team's hottest hitter this season, hitting .409 (9-for-22) with two doubles, three homers, and six RBI all from the ninth spot in the order. It'll be interesting to see if the 28-year-old can force his way to the top of the lineup, but his DFS price remains low in his current spot. In such a short season, Jones is worth adding in all formats to catch the wave of his hot streak.

JaCoby Jones Takes a Fastball to the Head, Stays In the Game

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones was hit in the head by a 93 mph fastball in the third inning of Tuesdays game but remained in the game. Jones came into Tuesdays game on a tear with a 1.143 OPS over his first four games, and hell try to maintain his hot streak through the season. A popular breakout candidate coming into the year, Jones boasts solid power and developing contact skills, and as long as there are no long-term effects of Tuesdays hit-by-pitch then he should continue playing well this year. If Jones is forced to miss any time, then Victor Reyes is likely to take over in the Detroit outfield.

JaCoby Jones Hits Game-Winning Home Run

Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones helped lead the team to their first victory of the year on Saturday, hitting a two-run home run in the ninth inning en route to a 6-4 Tigers victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Jones went 2-for-4 in the game and scored two runs. He's hit ninth in the order in each of the team's first two games, but has clearly been one of the team's most productive hitters, with three hits overall. He could be moving up in the lineup soon, but regardless, he'll be plagued by having an uninspiring lineup around him and his career to-date hasn't inspired much confidence in fantasy production either. He can be left on waivers in just about all leagues.
