Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jaime Garcia will go in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Nationals on Saturday, while Cole Hamels will start Game 2. Saturday's start will be Garcia's debut with the Cubs after he went 3-6 with an ugly 5.93 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 8.4 K/9 over 25 outings (13 starts) for the Blue Jays this year. Garcia is a very risky streaming choice in NL-only leagues. Hamels, on the other hand, has been sensational for the Cubs since being acquired from the Rangers. He's gone 4-0 with a 1.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8.6 K/9 in seven starts. Start him against the Nats.
The Chicago Cubs brought up pitcher Jaime Garciaon Tuesday. They bought his contract from the Triple-A club and he joins their bullpen. Garcia has struggled this season when he was with the Blue Jays. The lefty was 3-6 with a 5.93 ERA in 25 games (13 starts). However, the Cubs may have found a role for him. Left-handed batters batted .188 against him, so despite the overall poor numbers, he could serve an important role as an arm out of the bullpen that can be brought in to face a tough left-handed batter (or a stretch of a lineup with multiple dangerous ones).
The Chicago Cubs are signing free-agent starting pitcher Jaime Garcia to a minor league deal on Friday. Garcia held left-handed batters to a .188 average with the Blue Jays this year, and the Cubs plan to give him a few relief appearances in the minors before they give him a look. Overall for Toronto this year, the left-hander was 3-6 with an ugly 5.93 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 8.4 K/9 in 25 outings (13 starts). Garcia is well off the fantasy radar.
Toronto Blue Jays starter Jaime Garcia was activated from the disabled list on Sunday. Garcia will get some extra rest before joining the rotation thanks to the All Star Break and will remain a low end fantasy option when he does. Garcia had a few decent starts earlier in the season, but now owns a 6.16 ERA and 1.61 WHIP on the year with only 3 quality starts and 56 strikeouts in 61 innings, so unless he has some sort of resurgence, Garcia isn't very valuable in any league formats.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Low-A Dunedin on Sunday. Garcia could return to the Blue Jays rotation in the second half, but fantasy owners will probably want to avoid him, as he's pitched to a 6.16 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and has 56 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings over 13 starts.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia has been downright awful in 2018, and thats being generous. As a result, he could be demoted to the bullpen, according to Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. The move makes too much sense, especially with starting pitcher Marcus Stroman finally returning to the rotation this weekend. It sounds as though if Toronto makes this move, the short-term play would be to call up pitcher Sam Gaviglio to start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. Either way, you shouldn't own Garcia and his 6.16 ERA. If you do, you have bigger problems.
Jaime Garcia Only Lasts Three Innings Against Braves
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia was not a recommended fantasy play on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves, and his performance certainly justified the hesitation. Garcia lasted only three innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out only two. The long ball was Garcias downfall in this one, allowing one each to Braves outfielder Charlie Culberson and third baseman Johan Camargo. After yet another terrible outing, Garcia owns a 6.16 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 61 1/3 innings pitched this season. Its possible hes the odd man out when Marcus Stroman returns to the rotation this weekend in Los Angeles.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia will need to start pitching better if hes to keep his rotation spot, but we dont expect that to happen on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. Garcia hasnt been very good all year, and in his last start in an advantageous matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays on June 12, Garcia was hit to the tune of four runs across five innings pitched. Hes allowed a minimum of four runs in two of his last three starts, three of his last five, and five of his last seven. We'll probably be adding another to the list as he takes on the Braves and their elite offense. Theres really no reason any fantasy owner should be putting any sort of faith into Garcia.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia wasnt a recommended play against the below-average Tampa Bay Rays offense on Tuesday, and the results show you exactly why. In a 4-1 loss, Garcia allowed four earned runs on four hits and four walks across five innings pitched, striking out four as well. It was another poor effort for Garcia, which is the way we can describe nearly all of the 31-year-olds outings in 2018. With a 5.71 ERA and 1.56 WHIP on the season, it becomes clearer that Garcia isnt worth the headache in just about any format.
Jaime Garcia Not An Advisable Play Despite Matchup
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jaime Garcia has an attractive matchup on paper on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but we would recommend steering clear nonetheless if you can avoid him. Garcia is coming off a great start against the lowly Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in which he only allowed one earned run over six innings pitched, but he has shown a complete inability to string together good outings this season. Tampa Bays offense isnt anything to write home about, but at the very least, theyre significantly better than an Orioles team that ranks dead last in run production in all of baseball. Garcia and his 5.57 ERA should not be owned in just about any league.
