Jairo Solis Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Houston Astros right-hander Jairo Solis (elbow), one of the team's best pitching prospects, underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday. Solis, who was added to the 40-man roster in the offseason, also had surgery in late April to remove loose bodies from his elbow. His second Tommy John surgery will end his season and likely keep him out for at least half of 2022. The Astros No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has not pitched in the minor leagues since 2018 with Single-A Quad Cities because of his elbow issues, so this is a serious blow to his development. The 21-year-old creates a nice downhill plane on his pitches and only started to develop problems with his control and command when he injured his elbow. Solis has a nice four-pitch mix, but his development will now be pushed back for another full year.

Jairo Solis Undergoes Elbow Surgery Friday

Houston Astros starting pitcher Jairo Solis (elbow) underwent surgery on Friday to remove loose bodies in his elbow, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle. The No. 3 pitching prospect in Houston's system according to MLB Pipeline, Solis is expected to miss three months while recovering from surgery. In 50 2/3 innings at Single-A in 2019, Solis posted a 3.55 ERA with a 22.7 percent strikeout rate. Solis was unlikely to make an impact in fantasy this season before the surgery, but now it seems fairly certain managers will have to wait until 2022 at the earliest to see fantasy production out of him. Managers in dynasty leagues though should continue to keep him rostered.
