Jerar Encarnacion Working Out With Triple-A Sacramento

SF Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported on Monday that San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) is currently working out in Sacramento and could begin playing games with the Triple-A team by the end of the week. Encarnacion was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to August 7 with a right hamstring strain. The 27-year-old has also spent time on the IL with a left hand fracture and a left oblique strain. He did not have much to show in his 10 games with the Giants this season, but he did put together a solid .313/.410/.552 slash line in 78 plate appearances at Triple-A. Encarnacion has shown some power upside throughout his career, but there may not be much time for him to make a potential fantasy impact once he is fully healthy.

Jerar Encarnacion Lands on Injured List With Hamstring Strain

The San Francisco Giants placed outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 7) with a right-hamstring strain on Friday and selected the contract of outfield prospect Drew Gilbert from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Encarnacion will go on the IL for the third time this year after injuring himself trying to beat out an infield single in Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 27-year-old won't be eligible to return to the big leagues until Aug. 17, but he may not be ready to return by then. The Dominican outfielder has intriguing power and was tearing it up in spring training before suffering an oblique injury and a fractured hand. Gilbert, who was acquired at the trade deadline in late July, is starting in right field and batting ninth on Friday for the Gigantes in his MLB debut. UPDATE: Encarnacion was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain and is expected to be out for a month to six weeks, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Jerar Encarnacion to Miss Time After Injuring Hamstring on Wednesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) was pulled from Wednesday's game early against the Pittsburgh Pirates after injuring his right hamstring while trying to beat out an infield single at PNC Park. Manager Bob Melvin said that Encarnacion is going to miss some time and added that the injury isn't good. Encarnacion will go for an MRI exam on Thursday but will likely land on the 10-day injured list. Before leaving the 4-2 win over the Bucs, the 27-year-old went 1-for-3 with his second homer of the season (a solo shot). It will be Encarnacion's third trip to the IL this year after also fracturing his hand and straining his oblique. Grant McCray entered the game in right field in place of Encarnacion on Wednesday and could see regular playing time at the position in San Fran going forward. Encarnacion came into Wednesday with a .148 average (4-for-27).

Jerar Encarnacion Steadily Progressing

The San Francisco Giants report that outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) took batting practice at Oracle Park on Monday (Jul. 7) and will continue his hitting progression this week. The Dominican Republic native hit the injured list in mid-June with a left oblique strain after just eight games back with the team from a hand injury, but has seemingly progressed well. Oblique injuries can be problematic, so he'll need his body to respond well this week if he hopes to rejoin his teammates following the mid-summer classic. There's been no news of an official timeline, but if all goes well this week, he'll likely begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly thereafter. Encarnacion is slashing .136/.136/.182 through his first 22 at-bats.

Jerar Encarnacion Expected to be Out for a While

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) strained his left oblique while taking extra swings during the team's off day on June 16 and will meet with Dr. Ken Akizuki to go over the results of his MRI exam. Encarnacion is expected to be out for a while, according to manager Bob Melvin. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on June 17, but fantasy managers should probably expect the 27-year-old outfielder to be out beyond the mid-July All-Star break. Encarnacion didn't make his 2025 debut until June due to a fractured hand, and when he finally returned, he went 3-for-22 at the plate in eight games before injuring his oblique. It's been that kind of season for Encarnacion, who looked like he was going to be a big part of the team's lineup when he was swinging the bat well in spring training.

Jerar Encarnacion Lands on the 10-Day Injured List

The Giants have placed outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a left-oblique strain. In a corresponding move, Daniel Johnson, who was optioned to make room for Rafael Devers, is right back with the team, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Encarnacion is slashing .136/.136/.182 in eight games since returning from a hand fracture that kept him sidelined until early June, and he'll now spend at least another 10 days on the IL. He has one run scored, one stolen base, and zero RBI or home runs in that eight-game stretch. Encarnacion has not been able to build off of his .248/.277/.425 2024 slash line in 119 plate appearances in 2024 and is not a must-hold in deeper fantasy leagues while he's out.

Jerar Encarnacion Activated From Injured List

The San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hand) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned outfielder Luis Matos to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. Encarnacion isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's contest against the division-rival San Diego Padres, but the right-handed-hitting outfielder could see decent playing time now that he's back. The 27-year-old Dominican suffered a fractured left hand in spring training that caused him to miss the first two months of the regular season. Encarnacion was tearing it up in spring training before his injury and looked to be a big part of the lineup, so he's worth a waiver-wire pickup for outfield depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues now that he's back. In 58 games in his two MLB seasons, Encarnacion has hit .221/.250/.389 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.

Jerar Encarnacion Starting Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hand) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Sacramento, according to the team. Encarnacion is ready to restart his rehab assignment after suffering a setback with Sacramento earlier in May. Barring a setback, the 27-year-old outfielder should be ready to rejoin the Giants major-league roster for his 2025 debut early in June. Encarnacion was tearing it up at the plate in spring training before injuring his hand, so when he's fully healthy, he could see regular playing time in San Francisco as a power option from the right side. The Dominican played in 35 games for the Gigantes last year and hit .248 (28-for-113) with five home run, 19 RBI, 13 runs and a stolen base. Fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues looking an outfielder with power should keep an eye on him.

Jerar Encarnacion Should Be Ready To Return On May 23

The San Francisco Giants are saying that outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hand) could play in minor-league rehab games as early as this weekend, and it looks like he's on track to be fully ready when he's eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on May 23, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. Encarnacion has yet to make his 2025 season debut after having surgery to fix a fractured left hand in late March, but he should be back with the Giants before the calendar flips to June. The 27-year-old Dominican was swinging a hot bat in spring training before his injury and looked to be in line for a regular role as the team's designated hitter, so fantasy managers in deeper leagues should keep a watchful eye on what his role is when he returns from the IL. In 35 games for San Fran in 2024, Encarnacion hit .248/.277/.425 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored in 119 trips to the plate.

Jerar Encarnacion Undergoes Surgery, Targeting Return In Eight Weeks

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jerar Encarnacion (hand) underwent successful surgery on Friday and is targeting a return to the lineup in eight weeks. Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay noted that while Encarnacion is sidelined, Wilmer Flores will likely operate as the primary designated hitter. Encarnacion suffered a fracture in his left hand earlier in camp. He was expected to serve as a top option at designated hitter at the start of the campaign. Last season, Encarnacion appeared in career-high 36 contests and posted a .248/.277/.425 slash line. However, under the hood, he generated an elite .275 xBA with a .501 xSLG, which suggests he should have positive regression when he returns to the lineup. For now, fantasy managers should expect Flores to be the primary DH in San Francisco.
