Luis Sardinas News

Luis Sardinas Activated Off DL, Optioned to Triple-A

The Baltimore Orioles have activated shortstop Luis Sardinas(ankle, back) off of the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A. Sardinas has only appeared in eight games in 2018 as he dealt with back and ankle injuries, hitting .200 with one home run and one RBI. Sardinas has no value at the moment but has shown potential in the past and could be an option if/when Manny Machado is traded.

Luis Sardinas Recalled from Triple-A, Starting on Tuesday

With Jonathan Schoop remaining sidelined with an oblique injury, the Baltimore Orioles have turned to Luis Sardinas at second base. Sardinas was called up from Triple-A on Tuesday and is starting and batting eighth against the Tigers. Sardinas will be making his Orioles 2018 debut after playing 29 games with the Padres in 2017. While Sardinas was once a highly-touted prospect, he has struggled during his time in the big leagues, hitting just .229 with four home runs, 31 RBI and 10 stolen bases over 174 games. Perhaps if he impresses he'll receive more playing time in Schoop's absence, but for now it's best if he is left on the waiver wire.

Padres Claim Chase d'Arnaud, Designate Luis Sardinas for Assignment

The San Diego Padres made a pair of moves to shake up their infield depth on Sunday. Utility man Chase d'Arnaud, brother of Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud, was claimed off waivers from Boston. He played in 84 games with Atlanta last year but only made 11 plate appearances this season. The career .233 hitter has next to no fantasy relevance and will simply serve as veteran depth on the bench in San Diego. In a corresponding move, the Padres designated infielderĀ Luis Sardinas for assignment. Sardinas was hitting just .163 and will now search for a fifth team in four years to join. He is just 24 years old, so it's not too late for him to catch on with another club, but he hasn't shown enough progress at the plate to warrant rostering.
