The San Francisco Giants designated outfielder Gerardo Parra for assignment on Friday and called up outfielder Mike Gerber from the minors in a corresponding move. Parra, 31, hit just .198 with a homer and six RBI in 30 games with the Giants this season. Gerber, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Tigers last December and was hitting an impressive .357 with six long balls and 15 RBI for Triple-A Sacramento. Catcher Erik Kratz was also placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Gerber could see occasional starts in left field for the struggling Giants and might be worth a flier in NL-only leagues.
The Detroit Tigers called outfielder Mike Gerber up from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. He will take the place of Leonys Martin, who was traded to the Indians on Tuesday. Gerber, the team's No. 26 prospect, was batting only .214 but had 13 home runs and 33 RBI in 69 games on the farm. He could see decent playing time for the rebuilding Tigers now that Martin is out of the picture, so keep an eye on him in AL-only leagues.
The Detroit Tigers have recalled outfielder Mike Gerber from Triple-A Toledo, the club announced Monday. Gerber had joined the club briefly last week as the 26th man for the team's doubleheader against Kansas City, but he was sent back to Toledo after the game. He'll now make the trip north again to rejoin the Tigers following the club's decision to designate reliever Drew VerHagen for assignment. The 25-year-old Gerber owns a .288/.354/.474 line in the minors since 2014 with 54 homers and 44 steals. He will figure into a crowded outfield mix where he'll split playing time with JaCoby Jones and Victor Reyes, as Leonys Martin and Nicholas Castellanos have essentially secured everyday status in center and right field, respectively. Still, Gerber is an interesting player to watch in dynasty formats.
Chad Bell Optioned, Warwick Saupold and Mike Gerber Called Up
The Detroit Tigers have made a series of roster moves in preparation for Friday's doubleheader with Kansas City. Reliever Chad Bell has been sent to Triple-A Toledo and fellow relief arm Warwick Saupold has been recalled. In addition, the Tigers have called up outfield prospect Mike Gerber. Bell and Saupold are essentially non-factors from a fantasy perspective. Gerber is a highly-touted prospect in the Tigers system but is off to a slow start with Toledo, hitting .229 with two homers. Last year, Gerber managed an .869 OPS on the back of 14 homers and 26 doubles between all three minor league levels. He could see decent playing time and is one to watch in AL-only and dynasty leagues.
