Nick Ramirez, Mason Thompson Recalled Sunday

San Diego Padres relief pitchers Nick Ramirez and Mason Thompson have been recalled from the minors on Sunday. The Padres will get a few fresh arms out of their bullpen, but fantasy managers don't need to worry much about them. Ramirez likely won't last too long on the active roster and has struggled during his time with the team this season. Thompson is one of the better relief prospects in the MLB. However, he'll likely be eased into higher leverage roles, so he won't have much fantasy impact right away. Thompson has a chance at being the future closer, but will need to earn that role.

Nick Ramirez Earns First Career Win

Detroit Tigers reliever Nick Ramirez (1-0) threw three perfect innings to pick up his first major league win in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles. Ramirez, who replaced starter Ryan Carpenter in the bottom of the sixth, struck out five of the nine hitters he faced and got three others to ground out. He needed just 35 pitches as he threw 25 strikes, with 11 of those being called balls. The outing was the 29-year-old rookie's best performance of the season and marked the first time in five appearances that he did not give up a run. Ramirez, who has gone at least two innings in each of his games, is averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings to go along with a 0.938 WHIP and 2.81 ERA.
