Chicago Cubs minor league infielder Robel Garcia has spent all of 2022 in Triple-A and could be on the verge of reaching the majors again. An international signee of Cleveland back in 2010, Garcia committed to his second career stint in the Cubs' system after signing a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training this past offseason. Garcia has put up impressive offensive numbers this year, showing that he can both put the ball in play and hit for power. He has been particularly dominant as of late, going 9-for-18 with six homers and nine RBI over his last six games. Garcia's underwhelming track record in the majors means he likely won't have a major fantasy impact, but it's still hard to imagine he'll be stuck in Triple-A for long.
The New York Mets claimed infielder Robel Garcia off of waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. Garcia last appeared in the majors in 2019 for the Chicago Cubs hitting .208 with five home runs and 11 RBI in just 80 plate appearances. The move by the Mets was strictly for depth purposes. Even assuming Garcia makes the major league team out of spring training in 2021, he won't hold much fantasy value.
The Chicago Cubs have sent infielder Robel Garcia to Triple-A Iowa. Garcia had a nice start to his big league career, but has struggled at the plate lately. Garcia will likely get another shot with the Cubs this season, but wont hold much fantasy value. Newly acquired outfielder Nicholas Castellanos will take the roster spot of Garcia.
Chicago Cubs second baseman Robel Garcia went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored. Garcia has started six games since making his big league debut July 3. With Addison Russell struggling and Garcia doing well in a small sample size, its possible that he can take over at second base for the second half. Garcia is a name to consider in NL-only leagues for now.
