Rony Garcia Working As Reliever This Spring

Detroit Tigers right-hander Rony Garcia will be working out of the bullpen this spring, but the door isn't closed forever for him in a starting role. "His best route to this team will be in that bridge role of being stretched out to two and three innings," manager A.J. Hinch said. In his third MLB campaign for Detroit last year, Garcia had a 4.41 ERA (4.52 FIP), 1.04 WHIP, 13 walks and a career-high 48 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched over 16 appearances (eight starts). The 25-year-old won't have much fantasy appeal in deeper leagues unless he returns to a starting role for Detroit at some point.

Rony Garcia Likely To Miss Time

Detroit Tigers pitcher Rony Garcia (biceps) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. This is a shame considering Garcia was activated from the injured list prior to starting in this contest. The organization has announced that Garcia is dealing with right biceps soreness. Garcia is expected to be shut down from throwing, which means he won't be taking the mound anytime soon. Fantasy managers should look for another option if they were planning on getting value out of Garcia.

Rony Garcia Exits With Apparent Injury Sunday

Detroit Tigers right-hander Rony Garcia was removed from his start against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. It's unclear what type of injury flared up for him, but he signaled for the team's trainers while he was on the mound and he was promptly removed from the game. Garcia had been activated from the 15-day injured list prior to starting Sunday's game. He had missed nearly a month of action due to right shoulder soreness. It's unclear at this point whether Sunday's removal was related the shoulder injury or not, but we should have more clarity on the situation soon.

Rony Garcia Placed On 10-Day Injured List Thursday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Rony Garcia (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left knee sprain, the team announced on Twitter. Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that Garcia suffered the injury during pregame warmups on Thursday, and had to be helped off the field by trainers. Over two appearances this year, Garcia has allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out two over 3 2/3 innings. To fill his spot on the roster, the Tigers called up pitcher Beau Burrows from Triple-A Toledo.

Beau Burrows Recalled, Rony Garcia Lands On IL

Detroit Tigers pitcher Beau Burrows has been recalled from Triple-A on Thursday. He will be taking the roster spot of Rony Garcia (knee) who has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Garcia suffered a left knee sprain during warmups on Wednesday. His timetable to return is unknown, but he wasn't exactly an asset in fantasy leagues anyway. Burrows is expected to take over the long relief role, but posted a 6.23 ERA through 17 1/3 innings in Triple-A this season. Both players can be avoided in fantasy formats going forward.

Rony Garcia Making Case For Roster

Detroit Tigers pitcher Rony Garcia, a 22-year-old right-handed Rule 5 pick from the Yankees, could be making a case for the Opening Day roster. Garcia struck out three batters in 2 1/3 innings in Wednesday's intrasquad game and only allowed one well-struck ball to Miguel Cabrera. "Garcia threw the living fire out of the ball," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "The ball was jumping. Hitters said it was jumping." The Dominican native had a 4.01 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 129 strikeouts and 45 walks in 25 games (24 starts) over 130 1/3 innings with High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton in 2019 in the Yankees organization. There's opportunity with Detroit, but Garcia is merely just a name to watch right now.
