Ryan Mountcastle Not Playing On Thursday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle is not in the team's starting lineup for Thursday's series finale at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees. With Mountcastle starting on the bench, the left-handed-hitting Ryan O'Hearn will play first base and bat sixth against Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole. Mountcastle just returned from the injured list on Tuesday due to a wrist injury and has gone 2-for-7 with an RBI and two strikeouts in his first two games back. The Orioles are easing him in ahead of the postseason and will give him a day off against one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. O'Hearn won't be too popular in DFS against Cole. In his 17 career at-bats against him, O'Hearn has hit .118 with a .471 OPS, one home run and two RBI. O'Hearn has been hot of late, going 8-for-21 (.381) with three doubles and two RBI since Sept. 17.

Ryan Mountcastle Reinstated From Injured List

The Baltimore Orioles reinstated infielder Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. The O's haven't released their lineup for Tuesday's contest against the division-rival New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Mountcastle is eased back into the fold as he returns from a left-wrist sprain that has kept him out for the past month. Before his injury, though, the 27-year-old right-handed hitter was the team's primary first baseman. Mountcastle's power has been down again this year, and he was in a 3-for-22 slump at the plate before his injury. In addition to that, he had six strikeouts in 11 minor-league rehab at-bats before his return on Tuesday. It could take him a while to get back in a groove at the plate.

Ryan Mountcastle Starting Rehab Assignment On Friday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, according to the team. Mountcastle will remain with Norfolk through Sunday when the minor-league season ends. After that, the 27-year-old right-handed hitter will most likely rejoin the big-league roster next week. Mountcastle has been out almost a month with a left-wrist sprain, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Baltimore looked to ease him back into regular duties in the final month of the 2024 regular season before postseason play begins in early October. His return will surely be a boost for the O's offense heading into the playoffs, but Mountcastle's wrist sprain also won't help his cause to boost his power to close out the season. The former 36th overall pick in 2015 has only 13 bombs in 2024, 61 RBI and 53 runs scored in 452 at-bats.

Ryan Mountcastle To Start His Rehab Assignment Soon

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk later this week/weekend. Barring a setback with his sprained left wrist, Mountcastle should be able to come off the 10-day injured list to rejoin the major-league roster by the end of the regular season at the end of September. The 27-year-old right-handed slugger has been out since late August and could be eased back into first-base duties later this month as the O's look to have him firing on all cylinders for the start of the postseason in October. Mountcastle isn't a good bet to suddenly discover his power stroke after his wrist injury. He has disappointed in his fifth season in Baltimore in 2024, hitting .265/.305/.425 with a .730 OPS, 13 home runs and 61 RBI in 118 games as the team's primary first baseman.

Ryan Mountcastle Expected To Start Rehab Assignment This Week

Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is expected to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment this week, and the team is hoping he will return before the end of the regular season at the end of the month. The Orioles would love to be able to get Mountcastle some at-bats at the end of the regular season before they begin the playoffs in October. The 27-year-old first baseman has been out since Aug. 22 due to a left-wrist sprain. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter hit a career-high 33 home runs in 2021, but his power has been on the decline ever since, and he's hit only 13 round-trippers in 118 games in 2024. Mountcastle's wrist injury isn't going to help his power game to finish out the year and in the playoffs. When healthy, Mountcastle has been Baltimore's primary first baseman in 2024.

Ryan Mountcastle Could Return In September

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde thinks that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) will be able to come off the 10-day injured list before the end of the 2024 regular season in September. "I think he's going to come back by the end of the regular season, I just don't know when," Hyde said on Monday. Mountcastle is recovering from a left-wrist sprain that he suffered on Aug. 22 against the Houston Astros during a slide into second base. The 27-year-old started swinging a bat last Friday and is slowly working his way up in baseball activities before potentially going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The O's won't rush him back with a postseason spot pretty secure, and Mountcastle is unlikely to help much in fantasy the rest of the way if he does come back in September. His power has been down yet again in 2024 with only 13 homers after hitting a career-high 33 in 2021.

Ryan Mountcastle Hasn't Resumed Swinging

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is feeling a little better but hasn't resumed swinging a bat. "I have no idea about Monty," Hyde said. With no timetable for a return, fantasy managers can't be expecting Mountcastle to return from the 10-day injured list when he's eligible. The 27-year-old is dealing with a sprained left wrist that he suffered on Aug. 22 and might be pushing it to return by the end of the regular season in September. It's more bad news for a player that had already seen another drop in power after hitting a career-high 33 home runs back in 2021. Mountcastle has just 13 long balls this year with 61 RBI in 118 games played. Ryan O'Hearn should continue to operate in the strong side of a platoon at first base with Emmanuel Rivera in Baltimore for however long Mountcastle remains on the shelf.

Orioles Place Ryan Mountcastle On 10-Day Injured List

The Baltimore Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 23) on Monday with a sprained left wrist. The earliest Mountcastle can return to the O's is on Sept. 2. In a corresponding move, Baltimore recalled infielder Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk. Mountcastle injured his left wrist sliding into second base last Thursday and will now be forced to miss some time as a result. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the 27-year-old first baseman isn't ready to come off the IL when he's eligible on Sept. 2. With Mountcastle out for the time being, Ryan O'Hearn should see most of the starts at first base for the Orioles, with outfielder Eloy Jimenez also getting more run as the team's designated hitter. Mountcastle's power has been in decline now for four straight seasons after hitting a career-high 33 long balls in 2021.

Ryan Mountcastle Remains Out On Saturday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is out of Saturday's game due to a wrist injury. The 27-year-old was also kept out of yesterday's lineup. As a result, Ryan O'Hearn will cover first base and bat in the eight-hole. Even though Mountcastle is set to miss his second consecutive game, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day entering Sunday. Before the injury, the infielder was in a bit of a slump, with a .229 AVG in his previous 12 games. Overall, Mountcastle carries a solid .265/.305/.425 line with 13 long balls this summer. O'Hearn has been riding a strong .265 AVG since the start of the month but is best to leave out of your DFS lineup as he will face Houston southpaw Framber Valdez who has held a 1.27 ERA and a 0.56 WHIP in his past three outings.

Ryan Mountcastle Out On Friday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is not in the starting lineup on Friday for the game at Camden Yards against the Houston Astros. This shouldn't come as a surprise to fantasy managers after Mountcastle was removed from Thursday's contest early due to wrist soreness. For now, the 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day. Check back on Saturday to see if he's able to return to the lineup. With Mountcastle on the bench on Friday, the left-handed-hitting Ryan O'Hearn will play first base and bat fifth against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown. Any extended time missed by Mountcastle because of his wrist injury will result from more starts at first base for O'Hearn. He is hitting a strong .272 (93-for-342) with 12 home runs, 48 RBI and 50 runs scored in 110 games played. O'Hearn is two homers shy of tying his career-high.
