New York Yankees backup catcher Kyle Higashioka and outfielder Shane Robinson are both in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Austin Romine and Brett Gardner both have the day off. Outfielder Aaron Hicks will lead off for the Yankees, with Robinson and Neil Walker rounding out the rest of the outfield. Hot-hitting third baseman Miguel Andujar, shortstop Didi Gregorius, and second baseman Gleyber Torres with compose the middle of the lineup. After being outgunned by the Rays on Wednesday, the Bombers face another test in starter Blake Snell on Thursday. Snell is 13-5 with a 1.03 WHIP this season. That said, Andujar has been hard to contain in August and should be started against the Rays ace.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Cessa has been optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. The move comes in anticipation of Thursday's activation of reliever Zach Britton, as well as recently-acquired starter J.A. Happ's availability on Friday. For the time being though, outfielder Shane Robinson has been recalled to take Cessa's roster spot. Expect Robinson to be subsequently optioned to make room for Happ on Friday. Cessa has pitched well in spot starts for the Yankees this season. It's doubtful that Robinson gets playing time even though he's hit .333 in five plate appearances this season, as these moves are all being made in anticipation of Happ donning pinstripes.
Free-agent outfielder Shane Robinson signed with the New York Yankees on a minor league contract, including an invitation to spring training. The deal comes with a salary of $950,000 if Robinson makes the Yankees major league roster, though that will be an uphill battle given the talent all across the organization's outfield depth chart. Robinson, 33, is a career .226/.294/.297 hitter in parts of eight seasons at the big league level.
