Demetric Felton Jr. News
The Bengals signed running back Demetric Felton Jr. to the practice squad. The 25-year-old, drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, appeared in 24 games for the Browns. He had just eight carries for 20 yards during his time in Cleveland. However, Felton was slightly more productive as a pass-catcher, amassing 20 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan touted the former UCLA Bruin's skillset. Yet, Callahan indicated Felton would only be utilized as a running back instead of seeing time in the slot, something he did while with the Browns. That said, Felton isn't likely to produce anytime soon, although he's worth monitoring if the Bengals encounter injuries at the position throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
The Cleveland Browns cut running back/wide receiver Demetric Felton Jr. on Tuesday in order to get their roster down to the required 53 players. Entering the 2023 regular season, the Browns are going with a running back depth chart that includes bell-cow back Nick Chubb, Jerome Ford and the recently acquired Pierre Strong Jr. Felton, a sixth-rounder in 2021 out of UCLA, had just eight carries for 20 yards while catching 20 passes on 25 targets for an additional 189 yards and two touchdowns in his two seasons with Cleveland. The 25-year-old was more impressive as a pass-catcher and return man on special teams in his rookie campaign. There's a good chance he'll clear waivers and return to the team's practice squad to begin the year.
Cleveland Browns running back Demetric Felton Jr. carried the ball eight times for 31 yards in a 17-15 loss to the Washington Commanders in preseason action on Friday. Felton got the start with Nick Chubb not playing and second-string running back Jerome Ford nursing a hamstring injury. The team is calling Ford's hamstring a week-to-week injury, opening the door for Felton to compete to be the main backup to Chubb in the meantime. Look for Felton to continue to see plenty of opportunity to play in the remainder of Cleveland's preseason games.
