Buy Low Sell High: Week 14 (The Playoff Push)
We are here. Finally, and sadly. The final week before the playoffs. It’s both exciting and depressing at the same time. I don’t want the season to end already! This week sees 4 teams on Bye: the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and New England Patriots. The combination of 4 teams on BYE and all the injuries have decimated so many teams. Let’s survive the Bye-tragedies together and make some trades to get a win this week, and throughout the rest of the season.
Now, it’s always helpful to have people give you some advice on players that should only rise in value or have hit their peak. As such, that’s why I’m here. I’m here to help guide you through the fantasy football season and decide who you should go try to trade for or trade away. So that way you can keep on winning and hopefully win a championship. Right now, you’re still assessing your team. Thus, you don’t want to react too quickly to veteran players who have had a rough start to the season. If they keep struggling past this week, it might be time to make some team-changing moves. That doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of other people who want to get rid of them. Just FYI, the scoring is for PPR unless otherwise noted. FYI, all the stats come from our very own FantasyData. Here’s my opinion on who you should Buy Low/Sell High:

Buy Low
Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints
I get that Kamara seemingly fell off the face of the Earth. Like it’s been weeks and weeks since we heard from him. He hasn’t played since Week 9. However, he’s scheduled to make his much-awaited return this week against the Jets. Talk about a favorable matchup to make his return for. Plus, with a banged-up Taysom Hill, look for plenty of dump-offs and hand-offs to AK. Kamara is still an elite running back capable of scoring 6 touchdowns in a single game. In fact, in the 8 games, he was healthy, he 7 touchdowns, and put up at least 100 scrimmage yards 5 times. Talk about a great floor for you to have on your team. If I can acquire him for a late-RB1, or an RB2 and RB3, I’d happily do it. AK is coming back just in time to win people some leagues! Let’s win the championship!
Kareem Hunt, RB, Cleveland Browns
I get that Hunt was hurt for multiple weeks and had a stinker the last time he played in Week 12. Yet, how have people forgotten just how good Hunt is. Or how important he is to the Browns’ offense. Baker desperately needs him. Plus, Hunt was getting tons of red-zone looks and carries. With another week of rest, Hunt should be ready to go for the rest of the season. I’d be shocked if he didn’t get right back to putting up 60+ rushing yards, 30+ receiving yards, and averaging a touchdown a week once more. If the Browns are serious about trying to make the playoffs, they need to keep Baker healthy and run the ball, A LOT. This should be the Chubb and Hunt show. I’d sell my RB3s for Hunt right now. Hunt’s one of the best flex you could have in the game.
Ja’Marr Chase, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
I get it. I’ve seen the memes that Chase has reverted back into his preseason form where he suddenly has butter for fingers. I just trust the talent and situation. The Bengals are going to be playing for the playoffs and trying to score a bunch. He still has received 17 targets the last 3 weeks and put up over 110 yards combined. The yardage and catches will come. Burrow has a great connection with him. We have all seen what Ja’Marr is capable of. He can win you weeks single-handedly. Chase is averaging an absurd 17.4 ypr which has been consistent this year. Additionally, he has already racked up over 950+ yards, 55+ catches, and 8 touchdowns. With matchups against the 49ers, Broncos, Ravens, and Chiefs, the Bengals will in be high demand for many points. Chase might win you a league and it’d be wise to get him on your roster if you can. I’d be happy trading my mid-WR2 or multiple WR3s to get the deal done.
Zach Ertz, TE, Arizona Cardinals
Since the Cardinals acquired him ahead of Week 7 for the Texans, Ertz has racked up 23 catches on 31 targets for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns. That’s very good when you realize one of those games was a 1-catch for 10 yards performance and a bye week occurred too. Plus, he’s the TE11 in PPR leagues right now. When you have a dearth of TE options and so many underperformers, you quickly realize how valuable a good tight end is. That’s why I want Ertz. Even despite a BYE week and a rough week, Ertz is still the TE9 since Week 11. Now, he faces the Rams, Lions, Colts, and Cowboys, all of which are super easy teams to target your tight end against. This should be a great stretch for Ertz as he gets Kyler back, and might even win you a league. IF I can get him for a good price, like say, Fant or Freiermuth, I’d do it.
Other Buy Low targets: Michael Pittman Jr, DJ Moore, Najee Harris, Lamar Jackson, Christian Kirk, Amari Cooper
Sell High
Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Ah, my favorite player to sell high on. Even when the Seahawks are doing horrendous and have forgotten how to play offense, Lockett still has a blow-up two weeks. Of course, that’s thanks to Russell Wilson forgetting that DK Metcalf is a real person. Tyler’s the WR12 over the last two weeks. He’s recorded 14 receptions for 279 yards and a touchdown. Those are good numbers. However, they have come against weak cornerback groups of the 49ers and Football Team. And even the Cardinals should be included too. Now, he faces the Texans this week, which should be another big week for him. However, after that, he faces the Rams and Bears. Those are two matchups that if you start Lockett against, could cost you a playoff win. I’d be selling Lockett based on his 19.9 ypr and pushing to get back Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, Ja’Marr Chase, or another late-WR1 or high-WR2.
KJ Osborn, WR Minnesota Vikings
Anytime a player’s value rises sky-high without them actually doing something is a key time to sell HIGH on them. This is the case with Osborn. With Adam Thielen likely out for the remainder of the fantasy season due to his high-ankle sprain, KJ has become extremely valuable. After Thielen left the game with an injury, Osborn caught 4 of 7 targets for 47 yards and a touchdown. So I guess he did do something. On the other hand, he didn’t do anything until last week since Week 6. That’s right, since week 6, Osborn didn’t record more than 2 catches or 20 yards ever. Thus, you now see why I’m saying to sell high on Osborn. He’s good, but I don’t think he’s a league winner. Especially not when he plays against the Steelers, Bears, Rams, and Packers. That’s a rough slate for a wide receiver. See if you can’t get an actual WR3/flex player for him. Sell on the hype of Spiderman and Osborn. If you get the joke. Either way, I’m selling Osborn.
Damien Harris, RB, New England Patriots
As much as I want to trust and believe in Damien Harris, I just can’t. No, it’s not just because he’s a Patriots back, though that does play into it. It’s the fact that he’s unreliable and isn’t a pass-catching back. Plus, his price is sky-high right now after a massive game against the Bills when he racked up 111 yards on 10 carries for a touchdown too. He led the Pats to the win in what was truly an absolutely disgusting game to watch. However, a running back needs 100-yard rushing games consistently if he’s to not get any passing work. This was Harris’ first 100-yard rushing game since Week 7. That makes me nervous. If I can’t rely on him to score consistently, then I don’t want him in the playoffs. Furthermore, he’s on bye right now which means he’s not going to help you with seeding. Sell him to a playoff team if you can. If someone offers me David Montgomery, Kareem Hunt, Darrell Henderson, or someone that’s a high-RB2, then I’m taking it. You should too.
Dontrell Hillard, RB, Tennessee Titans
Call me a doubter, but I doubt Hillard is the second coming of King Derrick Henry. Against the vaunted New England defense in Week 12, he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown. As you enter the playoffs, teams are desperate for depth and protection since it’s hard to get more in the playoffs. So, sell high on Hillard. In his only two games this year, he has accrued 166 yards on 19 carries for an 8.7 ypc average. That’s really good and now he gets a great matchup this week against the Jaguars. Push that motive of winning this week to get in the playoffs. Since his playoff schedule is against the harsh defenses of the Steelers, 49ers, and Dolphins. sell now. If you can get AJ Dillon, Melvin Gordon, or CEH, I’d do it. Get real depth.
Other Sell High Targets: Devonta Freeman, Tony Pollard, J.D. McKissic, Taylor Heinicke, Kyle Pitts, Michael Gallup
