DFS Golf: 10 High-End and 5 Value Picks for The Memorial

We are just two weeks away from 2019’s installment of the U.S. Open and the golfers who have qualified already are gearing up for it this week by playing in the always strong field at The Memorial – an invitational that the great Jack Nicklaus is firmly attached to in his native state of Ohio. Na is coming off the win last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge but just recently withdrew from this week’s tournament. That won’t hurt the field too much at all though as we have elite players in the field this week including Tiger, McIlroy, Rose, Fowler, Finau, Scott, and lots of other top snipers. Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champ from last year but has missed three cuts in a row, so his current form doesn’t bode well to defend this year.

The Memorial this week, as per usual, is at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. This course plays tough with some comparing it to Augusta National, it’s a 7,392 yard, par 72, and the greens are bentgrass which is the same grass type as last week’s Colonial Country Club. The key stats to focus on this week for players are Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, Par 5s Gained, Proximity Gained 175+ Yards, Par 4s Gained: 450-500 Yards and Sand Saves Gained.

Below you can find 10 high-end and 5 value picks (in no particular order) for The Memorial this week, and DraftKings and FanDuel salaries are offered as well.

10 High-End Players To Get In Your Lineups

Justin Rose (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,800, FanDuel – $11,500) – Isn’t on a super huge role right now but on this course, he’s brilliant as he’s a former champ here and has 7 top 10’s in total. Was 3rd earlier this month at the Wells Fargo Championship and could easily add an 8th top 10 at this tournament come Sunday.

Matt Kuchar (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,400, FanDuel – $10,900) – Kuuuuuch won here in 2013, has 10 top 15’s at The Memorial, and his game is in mighty good form right now with three top 8’s in his last four starts, has two wins this season, and has played the weekend in every one of his 13 starts in the 18-19 campaign.

Patrick Cantlay (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,200, FanDuel – $11,000) – Is knocking on the door to win his first championship this season with back to back 3rd place finishes and a 9th three starts ago at The Masters. Was 4th here last year and could be inside that number after his 72 holes on Sunday.

Rickie Fowler (Salaries: DraftKings – $10,600, FanDuel – $11,300) – Is coming off his only missed cut of the season last week – no thanks to his 74 in round one on Thursday. Aside from that small blemish though, he’s had a pretty decent season with a win in February and 6 top 10’s. Has a runner up finish and a 7th in the previous two years here, so this course is exactly what he needs to bounce back strong.

Rory McIlroy (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,500, FanDuel – $12,000) – Finished top 10 in 80% of his starts this season and has 5 top 15’s in 7 starts at The Memorial. There’s no reason to think that another top 10 won’t come this week as he rounds his game into tip-top shape heading into the season’s third major next month.

Tiger Woods (Salaries: DraftKings – $11,200, FanDuel – $11,700) – The five-time winner at The Memorial had similar credentials heading into The Masters when he won last month, and he’s sure to be a prime time player for gamblers this week. Missed the cut two weeks ago at the PGA Championship but don’t let that result scare you off, if anything, his sky-high price tag should make you a bit cautious.

Tony Finau (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,600, FanDuel – $10,800) – Was runner up last week thanks to a 64 in round one and could be a threat for another big finish this week as he’s 4 for 4 at The Memorial with 3 top 15’s.

Adam Scott (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,700, FanDuel – $10,300) – Is trending in the right direction with three nice finishes over his last three starts – two of which were majors at The Masters and PGA Championship, and the other one was The Players Championship. His best finish of those three big tournaments was the most recent PGA Championship where he earned an 8th. His solid tee-to-green game should be rewarded this week.

Hideki Matsuyama (Salaries: DraftKings – $9,100, FanDuel – $10,700) – The 2014 Memorial winner is back to celebrate his 5th anniversary of that victory in which he was a rookie at the tournament then. He has two top 15’s at the tourney since 2014 and over his last four starts he’s gone 32, 31, 23, and 16, so he’s peaking at the right time to add another top 15 to his Memorial resume.

Rory Sabbatini (Salaries: DraftKings – $8,300, FanDuel – $9,800) – Wouldn’t think I would list this guy in my top 10 at a big tourney such as The Memorial, but he deserves the respect. Has three top 10’s in his last four starts, was 2nd here in 2012 and has only missed the cut twice here in 11 starts. His hot run should continue this week, I’m banking on it.

5 Value Players To Target

Adam Hadwin (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,100, FanDuel – $8,400) – The Canadian was 11th here in 2016 and although he’s not a big man in size, he makes up for it in fitness. Was 29th at the PGA Championship in his most recent start just two weeks ago.

Aaron Wise (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,300, FanDuel – $8,900) – Got onto the radar at The Masters when he finished 17th via a 68-67 on the weekend at Augusta National. He’s coming off a 41st at the PGA Championship and although he’s making his debut at The Memorial, that shouldn’t scare you off.

Emiliano Grillo (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,900, FanDuel – $9,700) – Isn’t flashy but is consistent as finishes in the ’20s and ’30s are common for him. Much like Hadwin above, he was also 11th here in 2016 and is 3 for 3 at this tournament.

Russel Knox (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,100, FanDuel – n/a) – For some odd reason Knox isn’t listed on FanDuel this week, so if you want to play him on a mainstream DFS website, it will have to be on DraftKings. Is coming off his best finish of the season with an 8th last week and has made the cut here the past five years straight.

Peter Uihlein (Salaries: DraftKings – $7,200, FanDuel – $8,600) – Tends to run hot and cold and is currently on a mini hot streak with a 13th and a 5th in his last two starts. Was 5th here last year and 25th in 2017 in his only two starts at Muirfield Village. Seems to have a good feel for this course and that should continue this week.

Go build some solid lineups this week using some or all of the players above, and all the best with your finishes on Sunday!
